What Not To Fear

"Mirror, mirror on the wall."

As the Snow White fable put it, sometimes we want to see ourselves a certain way – for good or for ill – and we project that impression on others.

Except nobody is their image, and nobody goes forward in life that way. That's the ticket to going backward. It's exactly why our spiritual ancestors wandered the desert for 40 years rather than enter the Land of Promise.

Mirrors, it turn out, can be profoundly deceiving.

Shir Ami -- Voices of Peace Concert Trip

“Voices of Peace” Jerusalem Youth Chorus –

An Extraordinary Musical Event

Sunday, July 14th

2:00- 3:30 PM

Trinity Church in New York City

If you love music, are moved by the talent of today’s youth and are longing for common ground, then you won’t want to miss the Jerusalem Youth Chorus (JYC) on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Trinity Church in New York. Shir Ami is planning on attending this free event as a group.

The JYC consists of young Palestinians and Israelis who use the power of words and music to foster dialog, understanding, and empathy. The chorus intertwines influences from both East and West, with lyrics in Hebrew, Arabic, and English. “In the JYC, we have a rare chance to truly hear each other, and that’s what makes the chorus a home for all of us,” says a statement from the members of the JYC. Click this link to read more.

Voices of Peace is part of the Faith Over Division Tour sponsored by the One America Movement. Admission is free.

The concert will take place Sunday, July 14th from 2:00-3:30 pm, at Trinity Church, 89 Broadway, New York. Before the concert, we hope to gather for a group brunch at 11:30 am at Fraunces Tavern, a 5-minute walk from Trinity Church, at 54 Pearl Street, New York, NY 10004.

If you are interested in attending the concert and the pre-concert brunch (you will need to provide your own transportation), please register NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, JULY 7th, 2024 by clicking the button below. And if you would like to be the volunteer contact for this event and work with Rabbi David on the logistics, let one of the co-presidents know. We could use your help!

Attending this concert as a group is the first in a series of events organized by Shir Ami as we share enjoyable opportunities together and strengthen our community. Look for details for events of interest in the future. And share any events of interest to you that might also be of interest to the congregation!

Hope to be with you on Sunday, July 14th!

Shir Ami Classes

Soul Spa is open to all.

Our Torah study each week on Shabbat morning has become a mainstay of our programming. As we examine the parashat each week under Rabbi David's guidance and questioning, our sacred writings become more familiar, the stories clearer, and the teachings more meaningful.

Soul Spa is free for members and non-members alike. You may drop in as frequently or as infrequently, as you like. Please click here to find the weekly Zoom link and for recordings of previous discussions.

Social Action

Mitzvah Day at JFS Stamford

On Wednesday, June 26th, Susan Kreiger, Fran Pribish, Jackie Anderson, Madelyn Yale and Ronny Kaplan packaged toiletries to be given out at the Kosher Food Pantry, to those who come to pick up food. We made up bags of toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, body lotion, and a included a friendly note!

It was a fun way to spend a couple of hours chatting, while performing a small act of charity. We will aim to have a group do this once a month - watch the newsletter for the July date.
