Dear High School Parents,
As a public school, we are required by federal and state agencies to ask our parents for certain information and preferences:
FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents certain rights with respect to their students' educational records. One of those rights pertains to the release of "student directory" information. Specifically, a parent has a right to opt-in or opt-out of having their student's "personally identifiable information" (PII) shared by federal or state governments for various non-commercial uses.
North Carolina’s State Board of Education and Department of Instruction requires us to communicate these rights to you and provide direction on how to adjust your preferences related to the potential sharing of your student’s information by state and federal entities. You may adjust your sharing preferences by logging into the PowerSchool parent portal using your parent account credentials. If you do not have those credentials, please contact the HS registrar at vnorris@lncharter.org. The deadline for adjusting sharing preferences is September 24, 2023.
DIGITAL DEVICE SURVEY
The state asks you to complete a Digital Device survey for your student(s). Once you are signed into PowerSchool, the survey may be accessed at the bottom left of the Navigation toolbar. Please note that you will not be able to use the PowerSchool App to do the survey; you will have to go through a web browser to have the survey populate.
