What Happened this Week?
The Republican Party continued to dominate the list of top transfers this week.
The Illinois Republican Party transferred a total of $1,000,000 this week to the House Republican Organization and the Republican State Senate Campaign Committee.
The House Republican organization then disbursed over $440,000 to Republican candidates across the state. This is in stark contrast to previous election years, when transfer spending during the third quarter was significantly lower for these committees:

Data from the Illinois State Board of Elections
Much of the Republican spending this week went to candidates in the Chicago area.
$133,000
was transferred to Rep. Michael McAuliffe (R-Chicago) yesterday, who
purchased tv ads in the Chicago area for the third consecutive week.
According to FCC filings, McAuliffe spent $59,215 on 57 ads running on CBS and ABC from August 15th - 21st.
McAuliffe, whose district covers parts of northwest Chicago, continues to show significantly higher available funds than his opponent, Merry Marwig.
However, Marwig received a boost this week
with the endorsement of SEIU, and McAuliffe has come under fire for false military service claims. This race ranks third in state legislative races with the most reported spending and available funds.
Senate candidates Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) and Mike Amrozowicz (R-Gurnee) were transferred $75,000 each from the Republican State Senate Campaign Committee
on Monday. House candidate
Rod Drobinski (R-Wauconda) received $47,000 from the House Republican Organization
on Tuesday and made the top transfers list for the second consecutive week.
The lone Democratic candidate to make the top 10 transfers list was Rep. Gary Forby (D-Benton).
Forby received $170,000 from the Senate Democratic Victory Fund last Thursday in the third largest transfer of the week. Forby is running against Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) in the state legislative race with the second highest reported spending and funds available.
The Democratic Majority party committee, which supports Democratic candidates for the Illinois House, also spent money on ads this week.
They made $18,500 in independent expenditures opposing Jerry Long (R-Streator). Although independent expenditures have been sparse in August, they have played a significant role in the race between Long and Rep. Andy Skoog (D-LaSalle).
Earlier this month,
Long expressed his "vehement disapproval" of independent expenditures made by the Illinois Republican Party on his behalf.
The fifth largest donation this week may have been the most intriguing.
Palatine Republican Committeeman Aaron del Mar loaned his campaign committee $50,000 yesterday. Del Mar's committee had just
$600 on its last quarterly report, and this loan is ten times larger than any previous contribution Del Mar has received. As a committeeman in an area that includes the 27th Senate District,
Del Mar will be among the individuals selecting Sen. Matt Murphy's (R-Palatine) replacement. Murphy announced his resignation last Thursday, which goes into effect September 15th. A replacement has not yet been chosen.
Based on Del Mar's sudden influx of cash, some
have already speculated that he may be a
leading candidate for the appointed position.
