Current Building Trends
While most people know that having a current, even "to die for", kitchen and master bath is advantagous for resale, what are the current trends if you plan on staying in your home but want to give it a lift?
Carpeting is out! Although it is the least expensive floor covering, homeowners are passing on carpeting because it's hard to keep clean, retains odors, and traps allergins. Laminates, hardwoods, tile, and even cork have gained favor. If you want, nothing stops you from placing an area rug on top of these floor coverings.
Window replacement on older homes has become very popular. New windows that close tightly and have the latest glazing options can significantly reduce energy costs, especially in the Florida summertime heat.
Fiberglass skinned doors with steel, impact resistant cores are also very popular now. They offer the beauty of a wood door but avoid the downside of warping and decay. The steel core means that no hurricane protection is needed, unless there is non-impact glass in the door. We take the "no rot" advantage even further by mounting the fiberglass doors on composite jambs and use solid plastic exterior moldings, leaving nothing to rot.
Lastly, metal roofs are all the rage. They have an extremely long service life, they reflect the sun's heat, they resist hurricane force winds very well when installed properly, they are "green" in that they are made from recycled materials, and are available in two types, several shapes and lots of colors.
