Leading Edge Homes, Inc. Newsletter
April 2012

Greetings!

It's been another productive month since my last update on the large multi-room addition we are working on in Wellington's Binks Estates neighborhood.

The second story block and wood framed walls have been completed, the roof has been installed and made water tight, wood for window and door attachments have been installed, and the interior wall framing is almost complete. By next month the windows/door and staircase will be installed and we should be ready to break through from the addition into the existing house.

Don't put off completing your room addition or home remodeling project any longer - material prices will never be lower.  Contact us today at 561-795-2551.  We will be your trusted advisor and help you through the entire process.

Sincerely,

Who's Caring for Grandma and Grandpa?
As we age, so do our parents.  Long term care options are very expensive.  Many children have assumed the position of parental care giver and determined that adding what is known as an "in-law suite" makes financial and emotional sense in the long run compared to assisted living care by others.

Homeowners who have chosen this option site comfort in having their parents close by, avoidance of stress on their parents being in an unfamiliar environment, no travel time/cost to visit them, and the joy their parents experience spending more time with their grandchildren.  Some even report that the ability of their parents to continue to enjoy the company of their pets made the expense worthwhile.

If you are in this situation, know that Leading Edge Homes has built many in-law suites and bedroom additions onto existing homes.  We have also reconfigured the interior of existing homes to add bedrooms and bathrooms.  Feel free to tap into our experience in this area by calling us at 561-795-2551.

Current Building Trends
While most people know that having a current, even "to die for", kitchen and master bath is advantagous for resale, what are the current trends if you plan on staying in your home but want to give it a lift?

Carpeting is out!  Although it is the least expensive floor covering, homeowners are passing on carpeting because it's hard to keep clean, retains odors, and traps allergins.  Laminates, hardwoods, tile, and even cork have gained favor.  If you want, nothing stops you from placing an area rug on top of these floor coverings.

Window replacement on older homes has become very popular.  New windows that close tightly and have the latest glazing options can significantly reduce energy costs, especially in the Florida summertime heat.

Fiberglass skinned doors with steel, impact resistant cores are also very popular now.  They offer the beauty of a wood door but avoid the downside of warping and decay.  The steel core means that no hurricane protection is needed, unless there is non-impact glass in the door.  We take the "no rot" advantage even further by mounting the fiberglass doors on composite jambs and use solid plastic exterior moldings, leaving nothing to rot.

Lastly, metal roofs are all the rage.  They have an extremely long service life, they reflect the sun's heat, they resist hurricane force winds very well when installed properly, they are "green" in that they are made from recycled materials, and are available in two types, several shapes and lots of colors.

If you have any specific questions about these products, please call me at 561-795-2551 or email me at: todd@leadingedgehomes.com and I'll be happy to share my knowledge with you.
