KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Pekka Haavisto

A longtime member of the Finnish Parliament, Pekka Haavisto served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs when Finland joined NATO in 2023. As a Green Party leader, he has also served as the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of International Development.


Mr. Haavisto's appearance is sponsored by Finlandia Foundation National and Finnair.

FINLAND IN AMERICA: Finnish-American Collections in Archives in Minnesota and Michigan

Archivist Joanna Chopp of the Finnish American Historical Archive in Hancock, with other archivists from Upper Michigan and Minnesota, will provide an overview of their archives holdings, how to access them, what they collect and special projects related to Finnish Americans and culture.

AAMUKAHVI & SAVING FINLAND IN AMERICA: ONE YEAR LATER

At FinnFest 2023, FFN shared its efforts to secure the future of the Finnish American Heritage Center and other cultural assets in jeopardy due to Finlandia University's abrupt closing.


FFN invites you to coffee and to hear the journey of Saving Finland in America and a bit about the future.

Author Hanna Pylväinen will talk about and read from her book The End of Drum-Time, which was a finalist for the 2023 National Book Award.

MARIMEKKO FASHION SHOW

FFN celebrates an extraordinary gift to the Finnish American Historical Archive in Hancock with a fashion show of iconic Marimekko dresses that is sure to impress. These dresses from the 1960s and 1970s are a must-see!

TORI NORDIC FAIR

Thursday through Sunday


FFN will have a presence at the tori/marketplace throughout FinnFest, with an informational booth, Finnish American Folk School demonstrations, author visits and book signings, and sale of books and goods from North Wind Books.
