UUCLB Celebration of Membership and
LGBTQ Pride Month Stonewall Anniversary
| |
Join with us for the national celebration of the 55th Anniversary of Stonewall with a Prideful service and celebration. During these troubling times we like to remember the words of Quinten Crisp "In an expanding universe, time is on the side of the outcast. Those who once inhabited the suburbs of human contempt find that without changing their address they eventually live in the metropolis." The LGBTQ+ Caucus is building bridges with our LGBTQ+ and Ally family.
Look for welcoming activities in the near future that are inspirational, educational and multigenerational. The foundation is one of education and lived experience with workshops on LGBTQ+ History and How to Be an Ally.
New Members and UUCLB Annual Awardees will also be celebrated on June 30.
Guest Musician Bass/baritone and guitarist Joshua Bassett is a member of the South Coast Chorale, a community vocal ensemble that seeks to build bridges between communal entities by using music as a vehicle for messages of acceptance and belonging.

"Burning Bright" with Rev. Rayna Hamre
Book banning and burning have long been a part of human history. Author Ray Bradbury wrote the iconic book Fahrenheit 451 on this very topic, published on October 19, 1953. Southern California and the rest of the US are now experiencing book and information suppression through legislation, unbelievably echoing the themes of his story. Understanding the forces driving the current fear mongering around books, libraries, and library staff can help Unitarian Universalists move forward with wise and courageous social justice actions.
| |
Rev. Rayna Hamre is a long-time Unitarian Universalist who grew up in the Orange County area. Rev. Rayna holds a Master of Divinity degree and a MA in History. She also served as a UU lay leader and as a Director of Religious Education prior to her ordination. Her current social justice activities include sponsoring refugees and teaching English as a Nova Ukraine volunteer, and serving as a Member of the Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council. A UU mystic who teaches the Pagan path, she currently facilitates a UU Pagan book group, Heart’s Grove. She also leads ancestor healing work, meditation classes, dream exploration, and provides ritual training as founder and lead teacher of Three Worlds One Heart Mystery School. threeworldsoneheart.org

If you submitted a postcard with us after service or at a picnic last year - this is your achievement SB 4! SB Means State Senate Bill.
Through our individual and together efforts - We have collected signatures to put measure A on the ballot in November 2024- Thank you ! LA County Sales, a portion of the sales tax, funds services for mentally ill and low income housing development. We build a coalition around common interests and Values in our local community and in California.

Our social justice collection takes place on the second Sunday, but you can support Heart of Ida until the last Sunday of the month, by mail, text, or online. If by mail, note “Social Justice Collection” on your check, and send it to UUCLB, 5450 E. Atherton St., Long Beach, CA 90808. Using Text-to-Give, text the words “25 Special Collection” and the amount to 833-931-1845. To give $25, for example, text “25 Special Collection $25.” To cover any convenience fees for the church, you can add the word “cover” (so “25 Special Collection $25 cover”) or simply text “Cover fees on” to cover fees on all text gifts.
