Greetings, Lions Family!

April showers bring May flowers…. I can't believe it's April already.

Parents, as we strive to bring the best instruction to our scholars daily, we don't want to leave out the most important part: our teachers and scholars. They have been working extremely hard to complete the curriculum by the end of the school year. Our PK-2nd graders are growing in their reading fluency and numeracy skills, while our 3rd-6th graders are preparing for this year's STAAR Assessment.

This month our 3rd-8th grade scholars will take the Mock STAAR test, which gives us a good indicator of where our scholars are and what we need to work on to prepare for the actual STAAR test later this month.

This year's STAAR review theme is "The Challenge: STAAR Games." Our scholars will get to participate in several activities that will help prepare them for the STAAR test. Teachers have prepared a strategic review that will target needed skills before testing. Our scholars can also practice Progress Learning at home.

For the 3rd nine weeks, we will celebrate our Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance scholars with popcorn and a movie.

Mandatory tutorials are ongoing for the remainder of the month. Please make sure that your scholars stay if they are invited. The groups are small during this time, and scholars can get more individualized attention.

Parents, our attendance continues to fluctuate; we fell below 97% quite a few times last month. Let's work together to make this month an exceptional month for attendance and see which class or classes will win the pizza party!

Remember, my door is always open. Please stop by and say Hello!

Every Child, Every Day, 100% of the Time!!

Dear Parents,

As we navigate through the final nine weeks and approach the end of the year with upcoming testing, we urge you to continue supporting and encouraging your scholars.

Even the most accomplished scholars can be affected by test anxiety. It's crucial to keep them motivated, focused, and on track. While experiencing nervousness and test anxiety can be typical, it's essential to address it if it becomes more frequent than usual.

Here at Rhodes School for the Performing Arts, we prioritize the holistic well-being of our scholars and their families. NAMI, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to Mental Illness well-being, has arranged various classes across the Houston Metro area as well as virtual sessions for families. We invite you to explore this month’s 'Mental Health Moments' to discover strategies for managing mental health conditions that impact many families today.

Don't forget to join me for the next installment of Coffee with the Counselor on April 10th!

April Tips for Best Vegetables

April is the month for planting potatoes, as well as onion sets, shallots, garlic, and Jerusalem artichokes. Many vegetables can be grown in pots, including carrots, salads, and radishes. Even if you have a dedicated veg patch, it's still worth growing some extras in pots, too, near the house for easy picking!
