Remembering and Honoring Ronald L. King

Our industry mourns the loss of Ronald (Ron) L. King, who passed away on July 23, 2024. Ron was a NIA Past President, Consultant, and Honorary Member.

A public visitation will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, Texas.

The King family will have a private memorial on August 15 in Falls Church, Virginia, at 10 a.m., which will be live-streamed. Ron's obituary, as well as details about the live-stream and memorial donations, can be found here.

In 2024, NIA renamed the President’s Award to the Ronald King Distinguished Service Award to honor his 50+ years of service to NIA and the mechanical insulation industry that he loved so much.

"When you hear his name, you think of our industry, and when you think of our industry, you think of him and how much he has given. They will forever be intertwined. This industry has lost a giant. He will never be forgotten,” said friend and decades-long collaborator Michele M. Jones, NIA’s EVP/CEO.

Read about Ron’s contributions to NIA and the industry here, More about Ron's legacy will be shared in the upcoming issue of NIA News.

If you have a special memory of Ron that you would like to share, please email us by COB today, Monday, Aug. 5, at membership@insulation.org. NIA is collecting these memories and condolences.

Heat Illness Prevention Rulemaking News from OSHA

On July 2, the U.S. Department of Labor released a proposed rule for Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings. The proposed rule would require employers to develop an injury and illness prevention plan to control heat hazards in workplaces affected by excessive heat. Among other things, the plan would require employers to evaluate heat risks and—when heat increases risks to workers—implement requirements for drinking water, rest breaks, and control of indoor heat. It would also require a plan to protect new or returning workers unaccustomed to working in high heat conditions.

Comments will be accepted when the proposed standard is officially published in the Federal Register. For more information on how to provide comments at this stage of the process, visit the OSHA website. Look for more news on this topic in Insulation Outlook magazine.
