GRADES K-2 RECAP
From Ms. Yenth'l
New beginnings are special and ours began by playing games to learn about each other. The students learned about different types of blessings, and they were particularly interested in the one about the rainbow. The blessing of the rainbow speaks of a covenant and promise between God and our people. That tied in beautifully to our class covenant that the class came up with: respect. Kavod is the Hebrew word for respect and the students will be learning more about this Jewish value and how to embody it in themselves and with others.
Thank you for joining us for breakfast. It was great to see you and your children together in our kehila/community. The students also had a chance to blow a real shofar in honor of the Jewish month of Elul. Click on the picture link above.
GRADES 3-6 TUESDAY RECAP
Morah Marla, Alex, and Ms. Koota:
We had a wonderful first Sunday getting to know our students and exploring Jewish values. We played icebreakers, discussed Middot (מידות), and started creating student passports. We also talked about Tzedakah (צדקה) and justice (צדק). We're excited to involve our students in charitable causes. To conclude the day,
all students had an opportunity to blow the shofar.
On Tuesday, we began our session discussing how the Torah is divided into books. Ask your child how many books of the Torah we have?
We then looked at the weekly Torah parshah, Ki Teitzei. It was great to hear how many students remembered the blessing we say before reading and discussing Torah. We found out that this week’s portion has the most mitzvot of any in the whole Torah! Ask your child if they remember how many mitzvot. After a brief snack we convened to the classroom where we sang the Alef-Bet song and learned/reviewed the Hebrew alphabet. We ended our day with Rabbi Baum for a brief tefillah minyan and everybody getting a chance to blow the shofar. Click on the picture link above.
