Ventura PD urges California Strawberry Festival attendees to utilize alternative forms of travel

Ventura, Calif. — As the California Strawberry Festival gears up to take place at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on May 18-19, 2024, the Ventura Police Department encourages attendees to proactively plan their trip ahead of time and opt for alternative travel methods, including rail and express shuttle service. This proactive approach aims to alleviate congestion in Downtown Ventura and enhance pedestrian safety during the event.

“Ventura PD is fully committed to community safety, particularly during large-capacity events,” shared Traffic Unit Supervisor, Sergeant Mark Knackstedt. “Our focus in encouraging ride-sharing options is to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize the potential for traffic congestion and collisions. We must work together to create a safer environment for pedestrians and drivers, recognizing that while the City does not directly organize this event, it impacts our community.”

Parking at the Ventura County Fairgrounds is limited. Visitors are encouraged to avoid traffic delays using the free shuttle service or discounted Amtrak Pacific Surfliner rides.

The Strawberry Express Shuttle Service operates at intervals of 15-20 minutes, provides ADA-compliant services, and serves multiple key locations, including:

  • San Buenaventura State Beach: 901 San Pedro Street
  • Ventura County Government Center: 800 S. Victoria Avenue
  • Pacific View Mall: 3301 E. Main Street
  • De Anza Academy of Technology & the Arts (DATA) Middle School: 2060 Cameron Street
  • Seaward & Harbor Lot: 955 S. Seaward Avenue
  • Oxnard High School: 3400 W. Gonzales Road

Additionally, the Festival has partnered with Amtrak Pacific Surfliner to offer exclusive discounts, including a ‘Kids Ride Free’ promotion for one child per full-fare adult ticket purchased. Discounts are also available for seniors, students, veterans, and passengers with disabilities. All trains will conveniently drop off at the Ventura station directly across the street from the Festival entrance.

Finally, a free bike valet will be offered at the Ventura County Fairgrounds for cyclists on a first-come, first-served basis.

All drivers are reminded to follow traffic laws, respect posted signage and speed limits, and exercise caution, especially when driving through areas with heavy pedestrian activity.
