Apply for Community Showcase

We are accepting community showcase applications ( including the Youth Conference ). It will be a national platform for you to showcase the program you have been running and highlight your contributions to the community. It will also be a networking opportunity for you to connect with other leadings organizations in the AAPI mental health field.

In 2022, the convention invited about 60 organizations, 30 of which were youth organizations, to participate in the first ever Community Showcase throughout the weekend. Attendees visited the showcase hall where each organization had a designated table, providing opportunity to network and connect.

For this year's 2024 convention, we hope to feature even more organizations. The information about your organizations or youth programs collected here is used solely to prepare for the convention.

Please submit your applications using the buttons provided below before April 30th, 2024.

Blue Cross NC Foundation 基金

UCA WAVES is Awarded Blue Cross NC Foundation Research Funding

Congratulations!

In November 2023, UCA WAVES registered as an independent 501c3 non-profit organization in the state of North Carolina. UCA WAVES, in partnership with Karen Community Farm at Oaky Grove, and with the support from North Carolina State Representative Maria Cervania and 13 North Carolina organizations, formed an Asian Pacific American health coalition to apply to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation research grant. The UCA WAVES-led coalition was selected as the only recipient of this grant in North Carolina.

The grant aims to "provide insights on the community conditions, health trends, and priorities impacting the health of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in North Carolina".

The project will take a multifaceted approach that includes an assessment of the statewide Asian American Native Hawaiians Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) community demographics and health status, in-depth discussion of health needs and barriers through focus groups, a comprehensive health survey, and in-depth interviews centering on lived experiences.

This funding opportunity is designed to advance North Carolina-specific learnings about the health priorities of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, and the kinds of strategies and systems changes that could be successful in promoting and improving the overall health and well-being of these communities. The project has started with the first successful listening session on March 24th, 2024.

Webinar - How Stigma Affects Youth Mental Health in the AAPI Community

3月25日,UCA WAVES 负责人Lily Chen受 NAMI NC(National Alliance on Mental Illness,全国精神疾病联盟)的邀请,作为主讲人在“NAMI AT NOON(NAMI午间研讨会)”开展了一场讲座,主题是《污名化如何影响亚太裔社区青少年的心理健康》。

On March 25, Lily Chen, UCA WAVES’ Director, was invited by NAMI NC to speak on the “NAMI AT NOON” series. In the webinar titled "How Stigma Affects Youth Mental Health in the AAPI Community", Lily shared several powerful cases that she personally experienced and witnessed. She discussed common mental health challenges among AAPI youth due to cultural differences, pressure from the "model minority" myth, and difficulty with intergenerational communication.

Participants who attended the webinar gave positive feedback. Following the webinar, Lily has also been invited to speak to the Asian American employees at Lenovo Co. in Morrisville, NC on May 8th.
