What Do You Think: Is the Greater Madison Region Growing Fast or Slow?

In an unusual and puzzling situation, two different government agencies report widely different population growth estimates for Dane County.

As reported in InBusiness Magazine, US Census Bureau data shows that the County grew by 6,696 people from April 2020 to a total of 568,203 by July 2022. This 0.6% annual increase represents a slowdown from growth rates during the previous decade.

The Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA), however, estimates that Dane County grew by 20,661 during essentially the same time period to a total of 582,165. This 1.8% annual increase shows accelerating growth compared to the last decade.

What do you think? Take our poll to let us know:
The Census is right: growth is slowing down.
DOA is right: growth is accelerating.

Next month, we'll report on the contrasting estimates and share our assessment.
