Sunday August 4 at 5pm Skype Q & A w/ director BAND OF SISTERS: THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF CATHOLIC NUNS IN THE UNITED STATES Dir.: Mary Fishman / 2013 / US / 88 min / High Definintion Digital Band of Sisters looks at a part of the Catholic Church that is often obscured behind the media's focus on papal politics and the ongoing sex abuse scandals, focusing on U.S. nuns and how their world and work has changed since 1962's Vatican II reforms. Liberated not only in dress but in scope of vision, American nuns have in the last 50 years been able to expand their mission of service to the needy from their own neighborhoods to the world at large. The Stories We Tell
Fri July 26 6:30 Mezzanine Lounge Open; Sun July 28 5:15; Mon July 29 6:30; Tue July 30 9:15; Wed July 31 6:30; Thur 8/1 4:00 & 9:15
Dir.: Sarah Polley / 2013 / Canada / 108 min / High Definition Digital
In her third film, writer-director (and occasional actress) Sarah Polley proves that her gift for empathetically probing the intimate (and not always pretty) facets of a marriage is not just limited to the fictional couples she captured so brilliantly in Away From Her and Take This Waltz, as she turns her camera toward her own family, specifically her parents, in this complex and many-layered documentary. Attempting to posthumously get to know the woman inside her mother, who sadly died of cancer when Sarah was only 11 years old, she searches for answers from her siblings, her father, and other family intimates, and in the process demonstrates not only the slippery and elusive nature of "truth" but also the various ways that individuals and families can process their own history and meaning through stories.

Mud
Sun 7/28 2:30 & 7:30; Mon 7/29 9:00; Tue 7/30 6:30; Wed 7/31 9:00;
Thur 8/1 6:30
Dir.: Jeff Nichols / 2013 / US / 130 min / High Definition Digital
The third feature from writer-director Jeff Nichols (Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter), Mud continues his exploration into the much-mythologized but less-often understood modern-day American "heartland" of the middle and southern states, with his trademark authenticity and respect. Fourteen-year-old best friends Ellis (Tye Sheridan of The Tree of Life) and Neckbone (Jacob Lofland), bored with the day-to-day of their Arkansas home, sneak away to do some exploring on an island in the Mississippi where a boat has become lodged up in a tree, and are surprised to find that it has an occupant, the titular Mud (Matthew McConaughey, continuing his recent string of nuanced, nonformulaic, preconception-busting performances).

Many small theater's are closing around the nation because the cost of converting to digital cinema is astronomical. Sadly for some it is unaffordable. Contributing to the Digital Cinema Campaign will allow OFS to continue to show new movie titles needed for this year's festival and for the future! We need your dollars to get us there.
