Read a recent report from any number of credible sources and you'll see food waste statistics showing that anywhere from 30 to 70 percent of food produced gets wasted. Waste occurs at every stage of the food system, from the farm to your compost bucket, amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars in value worldwide.
According to the book Drawdown, subtitled "The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming", reducing food waste is the #3 highest impact thing we can do to help the enviornment.
And how many more people could be fed by avoiding unnecessary food waste and rescuing perfectly edible food that has been discarded for aesthetic reasons or because of misleading "sell by" dates?
