Food Waste. It's a problem.
Let's talk solutions.
Read a recent report from any number of credible sources and you'll see food waste statistics showing that anywhere from 30 to 70 percent of food produced gets wasted. Waste occurs at every stage of the food system, from the farm to your compost bucket, amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars in value worldwide.

According to the book Drawdown, subtitled "The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming", reducing food waste is the #3 highest impact thing we can do to help the enviornment.

And how many more people could be fed by avoiding unnecessary food waste and rescuing perfectly edible food that has been discarded for aesthetic reasons or because of misleading "sell by" dates?

A new group called Drawdown Headwaters is holding a session on January 24th to explore what is happening locally on the subject of food waste. To register, email Rose Schmidt at drawdownheadwaters@gmail.com and ask her to add you to the list. Seating is limited. First come, first served.
Headwaters Food Charter
After extensive community consultation, Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance developed a food charter for the region that sets out 15 goals and 27 actions under 6 pillars to support the food system in Dufferin County and Caledon.

This topic relates to the Environmental Responsibility pillar, GOAL 2
from the Headwaters Food Charter.
