| Saturday Campers Took Charge! | |
At Saturday Camp, campers and families helped to design and lead activities that showcased the diversity of backgrounds and interests in our group. To celebrate Chinese New Year, we were lucky to have Sharon, a camper mom, teach dragon making and share traditional Chinese stories! Campers were engaged, creative, and curious, asking questions and excited to learn. The following Saturday, a camper, who is an expert in Origami making, taught campers to make paper airplanes, explaining what you could do to make them go faster, leading to an airplane race! We loved seeing campers gain confidence in their skills and grow to understand that their differences make them unique and special.
Longtime program partner Boston Boulders continued to be a favorite field trip. Boston Boulder's staff are continuously flexible and supportive of our campers and know how to make even challenging activities fun. Many of this season's Saturday campers had never visited before, it was exciting to watch as they started climbing for the first time, making attempt after attempt even as they grew tired. Campers took turns cheering each other on as they climbed high and supported and cared for each other as they took breaks! At Boston Boulders, campers grow their understanding of resiliency, kindness, and teamwork. We can't wait to go back!
| | February and April Vacation Campers explored STEAM |
Food brought everyone together during February Vacation Cooking with STEAM Camp! Our campers come from various backgrounds, with a wide range of perspectives, skills, and areas of interest. Throughout the week, while learning about the science behind cooking, baking with the professional chefs, and exploring social concepts like food waste management and food deserts, they shared their ideas and worked closely together as a team.
April Vacation campers spent time outside enjoying spring weather as they learned about orienteering with Navigation Games. They designed, built, and raced their own homemade cars, and went on a private tour of the MIT Museum Artificial Intelligence lab, and participated in an East Cambridge scavenger hunt.

We Had a Pupusa Party!
Friends, family, campers, staff, and Board members gathered together to learn how to make a delicious Salvadorian meal, taught by expert chef Camp Zarcone! Working with Chef Cam was a no brainer after she wowed our campers when she led a class at our February Vacation STEAM with Cooking Camp. Cam has taught at Haley House and Daily Table, and her skills shined at our Pupusa Party.

Volunteer Spotlight!
Through volunteering her time helping with Saturday Camp, local high school student Noa has reminded us that creating impactful programs is a community effort. Noa connects with CCA's work because of her interest in working with children facing adversity. She loves watching campers grow.
She especially loves visits to Boston Bouldering because she's able to watch campers increase their confidence and see them supporting and cheering each other on!
