WINTER 2024

Ready Readers is a quarterly publication of Menomonee Falls Collective Impact, a collaboration of community government, healthcare, and non-profit organizations that leverage local resources to coordinate better and expand services to improve the well-being of residents in the Village of Menomonee Falls.

Exposure to reading at a young age is crucial for long-term success in school and beyond. With the growing number of young children in Menomonee Falls, the Menomonee Falls Collective Impact Early Literacy Team seeks to provide families with resources to support literacy and language development.

It’s a great time to cuddle up ~ with a book!

Did you know that reading to your baby/toddler/preschooler for 5-6 minutes can increase their stamina for engaging with stories over time?

Tips for when/where to read:

  • Young children might listen best when in a car seat or high chair.
  • Bedtime stories are a great routine to start. Your child doesn’t need to hear a whole story or book to benefit from being read aloud to. It’s never too early to read aloud to your child.
  • Waiting rooms - have a few books along to help time pass quickly.
  • Snow day? Nothing passes the time like a good story.
  • Older children? A hot chocolate and a story can be a cozy combination.
  • Fewer hours of daylight? Stories can brighten up any day.

Make read-alouds part of your daily routine! And remember, all reading is “good” reading :)
