READ WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT "traces"

I found Deborah Klotz's work so innovative and creative and exciting, something so new and provocative.... The artist spoke about her work with such passion that it was hard not to be ecstatic about it.  Her explanation about the use of sand created an evocation of life and journeys and transition.

Jody Sataloff, President of the Board, Maine Jewish Museum

An exhibition of diverse yet coherent work in two- and three-dimensions involving materials including iron, plaster, cast glass, crocheted steel, seeds, digital photography and even a clock mechanism, speaks to the remarkably inventive vision of Deborah Klotz. Her powerful, yet subtle body of work is not to be missed and enhances the ever-growing importance of the Maine Jewish Museum's presence in Portland.

Bruce Brown, Curator Emeritus, Center for Maine Contemporary Art

Viewing Deborah Klotz's recent exhibition of work "Traces" at the Maine Jewish Museum engages both the intellectual and intuitive /spiritual sides of the brain. Her work arouses one's intellectual curiosity in that it makes one question how the artist creates such seemingly organic, textural, beautiful forms and surfaces out of primarily inorganic, manmade materials; it also causes one to question spatial relationships, with reflected and real surfaces competing for the viewer's attention. Her work arouses one's intuitive, spiritual curiosity in that the work has a mysterious, sacred quality to it, reminiscent of natural shrines or ancient holy places. It is a very satisfying exhibit to view.

Lois Leonard Stock, MS in Art, MSW, LCSW (artist and clinical social worker)

Deborah Klotz has created original designs that are breathtaking and timeless. Her use of modern materials to express classic motifs is unique and outstanding. Curator Nancy Davidson has enhanced the Maine Jewish Museum by presenting on-the-edge work on the caliber of more established contemporary art museums.

Pat Reef, art critic, Lewiston Sun Journal

There is so much to take in with this entrancing exhibit. In big, handmade paper pieces constructed with pieces of steel inside, the recurring image of seeds cast into the work suggests one might find something new with each visit.

Timothy Gillis, Portland Daily Sun
