Congregational E-News ~ Dec. 1, 2023

Every scene in nature is a microcosm revealing God—our loving God who walks with us, gently guiding us, along our life’s journey.

The Ocean of Trinitarian Love

As I gaze upon the Ocean, this is what I see:

The Father in His Power, Beauty, and

Immensity—

In Whom has been my Life’s Journey,

And my Journey yet to be.

The Son—the foaming Wave,

Part of the Ocean’s Being;

Flowing gently upon the land,

Drawing each tiny grain of sand

Into the Ocean’s Depths,

To become part of the Father’s Dream.

The Spirit—Current within the Ocean

deep,

Impelling, Powerful, Strong,

The Power within my “Golden Years,”

The Singer of my Life’s Song.

As I gaze upon the Ocean’s Beauty

This is what I see:

The Life and Love and Power and Joy

Of the Blessed Trinity.

To the Father, Son, and Spirit

I offer this loving tribute

On my “Golden Jubilee.”

Praying Advent – 2023 - Every Day Week by Week

Celebrating Christmas at Greccio

(1223-2023)

In October 2021, the Conference of the Franciscan Family—a group made up of the leaders of all three orders of Franciscans—called all Franciscans to join in the Centenary which will commemorate the 800th anniversaries of several significant events in the life of St. Francis of Assisi. We began 2023 with the celebration of the Later Rule and will conclude with Christmas at Greccio. During this Advent season, we will examine the story of the celebration of Christmas at Greccio and how we can apply the lessons learned from this event to our everyday lives.

Franciscan Justice Leadership Conference

The ongoing networking among various Franciscan organizations engaging with young adults recently bore fruit in the first Franciscan Justice Leadership Conference, a new collaborative venture organized by the Franciscan Action Network (FAN) around the theme “Preserving God’s Planet Together.” From Friday, October 13 through Monday, October 16, 2023, almost 100 participants from Franciscan colleges, Franciscan Service Network volunteer programs, and FAN Franciscan Justice Circles gathered at the Washington Retreat House of the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement in Washington, D.C., for four days of building relationships while learning about the connections between Franciscan spirituality, Catholic Social Teaching, and advocacy for ecological justice.

Sr. Diane Tomkinson was privileged to attend this initial Franciscan Justice Leadership Conference with eight undergraduate students from Neumann University, graduate student Dariana Troilo, and Guilherme Lopez—Neumann’s Director of Campus Ministry. Our Neumann students enjoyed interacting with students from other Franciscan schools (including St. Bonaventure University, Siena College, Marian University, and Holy Name College) as well as with young adults participating in various volunteer programs. Members of the FAN staff, including Srs. Marie Lucey and Maria Orlandini, were hospitable hosts and gracious guides throughout the weekend. Learn more about the program here: https://franciscanaction.org/franciscan-justice-leadership-conference/.

The young adults who attended this first FAN Franciscan Justice Leadership training returned to their universities with new relationships, knowledge, and skills to become advocates for justice in their local communities and beyond.
