July 2024 Issue #1

From District Governor Nick Krayacich

Greetings my Rotary Family. I hope everyone is enjoying a healthy, happy, and joyous summer. I am excited to take on the role as your District Governor for the year 2024-2025. I want to give a huge shout out to Russ Jones for his tremendous job as District Governor for 2023-2024 – he did an exemplary job with the full support of his wife Barb.

As members of Rotary international, we are united by a common purpose-the relentless pursuit of making a difference in the world. Each one of us plays a vital role in this collective effort. Membership in Rotary is not merely a title; it’s a commitment to building a better, more compassionate world.

Consider the impact we’ve had through our various projects, from eradicating polio to providing clean water and education. It’s the synergy of our diverse talents, skills, and backgrounds that amplifies the power of Rotary. Membership offers a unique opportunity to contribute to causes larger than us and to be part of a global force for good.

As you all know, Polio eradication is our number one corporate priority. We are so close to wiping out the second disease in the history of mankind.

The finish line is in sight, and yet we can’t take our foot off of the gas. Therefore, I would encourage each club in our district to get creative and host a Polio event in October (World Polio Day is October 24th) and raise a target of $1500 or more. Thank you in advance for your leadership!

Our Rotary Foundation is the economic engine that allows us to do good in the world. The Trustees of the Rotary Foundation have set an audacious goal of raising 2.025 billion dollars for the Endowment Fund by 2025. Please consider bequeathing a gift to the Endowment Fund by becoming a Bequest Society Member ($10,000 USD or more), or a Benefactor ($1000 USD). We would like to celebrate those of you who contribute at our Legacy Event on November 21st, at Crystal Gardens in Southgate, Michigan.

But it’s not just about the projects - it’s about the personal growth that comes with being a Rotarian. Rotary provides an environment where leaders are nurtured, friendships are forged, and compassion is cultivated. The value of membership extends beyond the impact we make externally-it transforms us internally, fostering a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

In the tapestry of Rotary, every member is thread, and each thread contributes to the beautiful pattern of positive change. Your membership is not a passive status; it’s an active participation in a network that empowers, supports, and uplifts. Rotary International is not just an organization; it’s a family that inspires each member to become the best version of themselves.

So, as we reflect on the value of our membership in Rotary International, let us recognize that we are part of something much greater than ourselves. Let us continue to embrace the principles of service, integrity, and fellowship that define our Rotary Family. Together, we can turn dreams into realities, challenges into opportunities, and create a legacy of lasting impact.

Let us share this magnificent gift of Rotary by asking others to join our great organization. In a world that is hurting from economic hardship, inflation, political divisiveness, effects of climate change such as floods, hurricanes, etc, our local and global communities need new Rotarians more than ever. Let each and every one of us make a commitment to grow our clubs and create lasting change in our world.

Thank you for being an integral part of Rotary International, where membership isn’t just about joining; it’s about belonging to a community that changes the world one act of service at a time.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,

DG Nick

District Rotary Foundation Committee Update

Sue Goldsen, Chair

CONTINUING THE MISSION

The Foundation’s programs address current needs — promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment — in ways that make sustainable change for the future and improve people’s lives all around the world. Thank you for supporting the Foundation and helping our work continue!

In Rotary, July is a time of new beginnings, a time to reconnect with each other across distances and differences and to respond to change, a time to show Rotary Opens Opportunities. As we reconnect, and respond, this is a time to reassess, to envision; it is most importantly a time to set goals and to determine how we will serve our Communities, our Nation and the World, seizing opportunities for service.

The ability to see and act on opportunities that are opened through friendship and fellowship is what makes Rotary so very different. And the willingness of all Rotarians to safely serve as they are able, locally or globally, is what unites us.

Work with your club members, clubs in your area and with District leadership to help make a difference in your local communities and globally. Remember we are a team and together we can do more good!
