LADWP’s LA100 Equity Strategies Selected as Finalist for Energy Equity Award

The Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA) selected LADWP’s LA100 Equity Strategies as one of three finalists in the Equity category for its 2024 Power Player of the Year Award. Completed in 2023, LA100 Equity Strategies was a two-year study designed to ensure that L.A.’s path to 100% carbon-free energy will both achievable and equitable, and that all of L.A.’s communities will benefit from the city’s clean energy transition. The study was completed in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and UCLA.


According to SEPA, nominated projects were evaluated for their innovation, collaboration, and replicability and scalability. Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) was named the 2024 Energy Equity Power Player, winning the Equity category with its Community Impact Plan.

KBLA Talk 1580 Hosts Climate Change and Social Justice Symposium; Part of Climate Justice Campaign Co-Sponsored by LADWP

Earlier this year, KBLA Talk 1580 launched the KBLA Climate Justice Campaign, with LADWP as one of the campaign’s sponsors. As part of that campaign, the radio station recently hosted the Town Hall on Climate Change and Social Justice.



Held at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, the symposium brought together the voices of leaders in climate change and environmental justice, and others committed to addressing the climate crisis. Among the speakers were KBLA Radio Talk Show Host Tavis Smiley, Sierra Club President Ben Jealous, and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. The event was broadcast live on C-SPAN.

$1 Million in Federal Funding Will Support Technology Updates at LADWP’s La Kretz Innovation Campus

In May, the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) received $1 million in federal Community Project Funding to complete upgrades to its building, LADWP’s La Kretz Innovation Campus. According to LACI, among the planned upgrades are installation of state-of-the-art EV charging solutions, such as bi-directional charging, and campus microgrid updates. These upgrades to facility technologies will help ensure LACI and the La Kretz Innovation Campus remain at the cutting edge while continuing to foster a green economy for Los Angeles.


U.S. Representative Jimmy Gomez, who helped secure the funding for LACI, was on hand for the check presentation. L.A. Deputy Mayor of Energy and Sustainability Nancy Sutley, LADWP acting Chief Sustainability Officer Aaron Gross, and LACI leaders also were in attendance.
