April News from

St. Francis de Sales High School

Dear St. Francis de Sales Community,

May is here after a busy April and our seniors are getting ready to graduate in a few weeks! And as many of you know, I too am "graduating". After 40 years at St. Francis de Sales High School, I have decided to retire at the end of June. We will have plenty of time to celebrate, including a party on June 7th (mark your calendars and more will come out about that next week).

I don't think I could retire so easily if I didn't see a strong future for SFDS. I have seen a lot of changes in my 40 years (not just my hair and clothes!). In the last four years, the school has developed a new and vibrant energy with Principal Facen in charge! There is a great future for de Sales and I plan to be there help, just like I know you will! And don't worry, I am only a phone call away. Expect to see me at the Golf Outing in September and the Alumni Raffle next spring!

Now on to what is happening! April was full of spring activities, including:

  • Earth Day activities to beautify the school. Alderman Peter Chico hosted a Clean and Green Day! !
  • St. Francis de Sales hosted Hiro Con where attendees learned how to make onagiri- Japanese flavored rice balls - and how to draw anime characters. They also had a live artist presentation, a ramen station, a cosplay costume contest, and more!
  • And thank you to the volunteers from Exelon and ComEd who dedicated their time to help our school green up. Thank you from all of us! #NationalVolunteerMonth

Seniors had prom and are getting ready to graduate. They are just making their college decisions. We have seniors attending UIC, U of I Champaign/Urbana, St. Johns, Wittenberg, MalcomX, Indiana State, Calumet College, Alabama A&M and more! Four of our students received 4 year scholarships to St. Johns University in Brooklyn. Its an exciting time!

As always, remember to get your SFDS gear year round! Visit our Pioneer family spirit wear sideline store to shop online and have your gear delivered directly to you.

Please let me know if you have information you want to share in future monthly newsletters or reach out to plan a visit!

Thank you to all our volunteers

and community members

On April 20th working with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, we delivered food to many in our community. We had students and alumni and friends come help.

And mid month, Exelon and ComEd came to our school to volunteer their time planting gardens and beautifying our space.

Work Study Program Happenings!

Financial Literacy Class

Thank you to Charles Schwab for teaching our senior class about financial literacy this year. Charles Schwab's team was FANTASTIC and Christopher McCarthy was great with engaging our students and giving them the knowledge that they need to feel prepared as they graduate.

We'd like to also give a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our Senior Work Study Class of 2024. You guys really showed up and made a lasting impression on not only us, but those you worked with as well. Thank you for all the effort, hard work, and dedication you showed to our school and the SSEI Work Study program.
