Greetings!,

Your donation will be doubled by a group of generous donors
By now, you may know the story of how, ten years ago, a group of friends from Detroit started the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU) with the hope that policy related to the American Muslim community would be developed based on facts - not political agendas, misunderstanding, or prejudice. I admit - it was an ambitious plan then, and it remains one still.

But today, thanks to the support of people like you, we are closer than ever to that vision. Take our recent report on political and civic engagement - it has received nationwide attention because it has shifted the narrative of American Muslims from one of victim or villain to the story of a community finding its political voice. The report showcases a growing, diverse, complex and - most importantly - engaged subset of the American community.

As our country navigates the issues and politics leading up to the 2012 election, we want to ensure that ISPU continues to produce this critically important work. To help us with this goal and to honor our 10th anniversary, a group of generous donors has offered our supporters a challenge. The challenge is that each dollar raised online within the next thirty days will be matched, up to a total of $50,000. Your $100 gift to ISPU becomes $200, $500 becomes $1,000, $1,500 becomes $3,000, and so on.

The funds raised through this campaign will support a series of policy papers that will expand and inform the political voice of the Muslim community in this critical election year and will support the development a mobile app that document and analyze the participation of American Muslims in the election. We are turning to you to help us make the most of this challenge - to ensure that we reach the $50,000 goal over the next four weeks.

Please visit www.ispu.org to make your donation and share our campaign. With your support, we can meet this challenge and ensure that ISPU continues to produce unique and insightful analysis.

Thank you,

Iltefat Hamzavi

Chairman, ISPU Board of Directors

PS- Please make your gift this week to get us on track to meet our $50,000 goal!

ISPU's Impact

Through our groundbreaking report Engaging American Muslims, ISPU has created a buzz about the potential impact of the Muslim vote in the 2012 election. The report indicates that in key districts in battleground states, the increasingly politically engaged American Muslim community could help to "swing" the vote, causing campaigns at all levels to take notice.

On the day of the report's release,  The New York Times published an op-ed by its author, ISPU's Director of Research Farid Senzai, and CNN.com highlighted the report.  CNN News had a segment on the report featuring James Carville and citing ISPU onscreen.
