Full Time Social Worker for Off Campus Area
Columbus, OH: The Ohio State University is working with community partners to bring on a full-time social worker dedicated to helping housing-vulnerable people in the off-campus area. The hiring is one of several university initiatives designed to support the neighborhoods and residents surrounding Ohio State’s campus. Beginning this summer, a social worker from Southeast Healthcare will work in the off-campus area, with a special emphasis on North High Street, to provide outreach and offer resources and support to people who are homeless, housing insecure, or in need of other assistance. Southeast Healthcare, based in Ohio, has a long history of helping the state’s most vulnerable populations. Ohio State News

Change on How College Students are Reported
Normal, IL: College communities could see a boost in population numbers this fall — and that's being closely watched in Normal. Challenges brought on by the coronavirus pandemic led to the U.S. Census Bureau changing and updating some policies in how colleges report student populations. "I think all college towns will really appreciate this because everyone will be counted, and that means more accurate population numbers, more accurate funding for programs and things like that," said Alyssa Cooper, community planner for the McLean County Regional Planning Commission who led the county's Complete Count Committee. Walking the Talk of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion in HE
Many organisations, including public and private companies, non-profits and educational institutions, ‘talk the talk’ of DE&I through their mission and vision statements, organisational edicts, newsletters and other media communications. But are they aware of how to truly implement the values of DE&I in an organisation from a systemic perspective? One way of finding out is through examining how the organisation 1) seeks diversity of people, perceptions, experiences and thoughts; 2) treats every individual equitably, including when it comes to compensation, access to information, opportunity to learn and job advancement; and 3) provides an inclusive culture in which all individuals feel confident in having their ideas heard before decisions are made.
