Students Continued Civic Engagement During COVID
Waterville, ME: Established in 2019, the O’Hanian-Szostak Fellows for Civic Leadership funds up to 10 Colby students annually to pursue self-identified projects that fit an emerging community need. The goal is for the programs to continue even after the founding students graduate. Projects include the Waterville Seed Library, which provides seeds for community members with a step-by-step guide for the planting process, and the Colby Cares about Kids mentorship program. The Civic Engagement Student Advisory Committee encompasses a broad representation of students across various civic engagement initiatives. They meet twice weekly to evaluate how the engagement serves local community. CentralMaine.com

Football Club Launches Student Chaperone Program
Cardiff, Wales: Cardiff University Football Club has been praised for launching a chaperone service to help female students walk home safely at night after rumours of a “national rape day” circulated on social media, reports Wales Online. While the so-called event was widely disproved as a hoax, police and universities issued warnings – with Cardiff University saying that they were “taking these matters seriously." However, determined to do more to protect female students walking around Cathays at night, Cardiff University Football Club president and first team captain Ben Marett (22) decided to offer a chaperone service to anyone walking through the area on Saturday night.
