“Paint the City” project creating free murals for business owners

Barrett Keithley and Missy Perkins are offering assistance to business owners with boarded up buildings. Through their project “Paint the City” the two have enlisted artists to create murals on storefronts and the services are offered free of charge.

Paint the City, an artist led coalition founded by artist Barrett Keithley and partner Missy Perkins. To date 75 artists are participating. An artist-led volunteer initiative to cover unsightly plywood board with uplifting and inspiring murals. Artist’s labor is provided free of charge. Any donations from businesses are used to purchase supplies and offer stipends to the volunteer artist.

“Paint the City” is open to business owners across the city with an emphasis on the City’s South and West sides. Business owners may email Missygem13@gmail.com about their interest in having a mural created at their business. The team will meet to discuss what the owner would like to have painted. Owners can make suggestions on the art or let allow the team to use their artistic discretion. Work on murals will begin right away.
While we may be at home, our hearts are with our community. Bennett Day School has created a collaborative art installation outside the school’s playground to remind the community that we’re all in this together. This month, students and families were mailed wooden hearts as an invitation to contribute to the installation, pulling creative minds together to create a colorful installation for the whole community to enjoy.
