RANCHO CUCAMONGA

TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX

BALLOT MEASURE

The City of Rancho Cucamonga strives to maintain safety, security, and a high quality of life for all who live, work, and visit here.

One of the fiscal means to maintain this quality and character is the City of Rancho Cucamonga’s Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) also known as a "bed tax" or "hotel visitor tax" which is paid by hotel, motel, and short-term rental guests staying in Rancho Cucamonga. The TOT provides a reliable source of funding for some City services, doing so without any tax burden on local residents, unless a resident stays at a hotel, motel or short-term rental in Rancho Cucamonga.

To help the City plan for the future, on May 15, 2024, after conducting public outreach and receiving feedback from the community, including conducting a public opinion poll, the Rancho Cucamonga City Council unanimously voted to place a Transient Occupancy Tax measure on the November 5, 2024 ballot.

The TOT is not paid by any local hotel, motel or short-term rental operator, but solely by guests staying within Rancho Cucamonga. If approved by voters, the $1 million generated by this measure each year could provide funding to help the

City plan for long-term budgeting of key City functions, including:1

  • Supporting Public Safety
  • Addressing Homelessness
  • Improving Infrastructure
  • Maintaining and Improving Parks and Open Space
  • Supporting City Programs for Seniors and Youth

ESSENTIAL WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS TIPS

Warm weather is one reason many appreciate living in Southern California. However, it is also a reminder that we live in a region prone to wildfires. When the weather conditions are just right, the risk of wildfires increases throughout the State. It’s not a matter of IF the next wildfire will occur, but WHEN!

The Rancho Cucamonga Fire District invites you to read on for preparedness tips to help you, your loved ones, and your neighbors become #ReadyRC for wildfire season:

  • Report suspicious fire-related activity by calling 1-800-47-ARSON or online at WeTip.com. Always report actively burning fires by calling 9-1-1.

  • Always use caution with outdoor open flames and cooking, especially in the high fire hazard areas in the foothill neighborhoods. Barbecues, firepits, candles, lanterns, and Tiki torches are all sources of open flames, which under the right conditions can ignite a fire. Avoid using charcoal for cooking and wood for firepits since these can produce embers which are often carried long distances into dry vegetation.

  • Never discard smoking materials such as cigarettes and cigars on the ground.

  • Maintain gasoline-powered landscaping equipment so that it does not backfire or overheat.

  • Create 30 feet of defensible space around your home by clearing dry brush surrounding your property.

  • Maintain your vehicle to prevent roadside breakdowns that can ignite nearby vegetation.

  • Create a household evacuation plan and if you are asked to leave, do not hesitate.

  • Read our ReadyRC Guide for a variety of preparedness information to review with your household and neighbors. This guide can also be downloaded to your mobile device!

We are stronger when we work together and the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District appreciates your efforts in ensuring the resiliency of our community.
