Dear Sonora High School Families,

As we transition out of the summer season, I want to extend my warmest wishes to all of our students, parents, and staff. My hope is that you were able to spend the last few weeks relaxing, spending time with loved ones, and taking a moment to recharge. The 2023-2024 school year has come to a close, and it was a year filled with remarkable achievements, memorable moments, and significant milestones. We celebrated the incredible journey of our graduating seniors, the Class of 2024. This group of students has shown resilience, dedication, and a commitment to excellence that has been truly inspiring. Their graduation ceremony was a beautiful and heartfelt event, reflecting the hard work and perseverance they have demonstrated throughout their time at Sonora High School. We are immensely proud of all they have accomplished and excited to see the bright futures that lie ahead for each and every one of them. Click on the video below to see the full re-cap video of the commencement ceremony.

As we transitioned our graduating Seniors to their future endeavors, this summer we had the pleasure of welcoming our incoming freshmen through our Summer Bridge program. This initiative was designed to help our newest students acclimate to the campus, build relationships with their peers, and get a head start on the exciting journey ahead of them. The program included a variety of activities, such as campus tours, team-building exercises, and fun games, all aimed at fostering a sense of community and belonging. The highlight of the program was the opportunity for students to enjoy food, meet our staff, and make new friends and connections that will support them as they begin their high school experience.

As we look forward to the upcoming school year, we are excited about the opportunities and experiences that await our students. Our dedicated staff is already preparing to ensure that the 2024-2025 school year is filled with academic challenges, personal growth, and memorable moments.

The next couple of weeks will be busy as we prepare for the new year. Most notably, Orientation Days (August 1st, 2nd, and 5th) will give students and families the opportunity to take care of the necessary business before the first day arrives. There is much more important information regarding Orientation Days and other events further down in this message.

Hope you all had a wonderful and restful summer break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in a few days, ready to embark on another exciting year at Sonora High School.

Class Schedules

At Orientation, students will be given a list of the courses they requested in the spring. This list is not the final schedule with class periods or teacher names and is not in any particular order.

Final class schedules will be available for students to view in their Aeries portal after 4:30pm on Friday, August 9th.

Schedule Changes

At this time, we encourage students and parents with questions regarding their courses to see the counselors in person during the assigned Orientation dates. Counselors will be available to assist you at that time.

After Orientation, ALL schedule changes must be submitted online using the 2024-25 SOHS Fall Course Request Change Form. Students may only request schedule changes using the Google form beginning Tuesday, August 6th at 8:00 am until Friday, August 16th at 4:00 pm. This form may be submitted once and can only be accessed using the student's FJUHSD school email. This is the student's nine-digit ID number, for example, 123456789@fjuhsd.org. Any request submitted via email will not be approved. If you have emailed your counselor, please resubmit your request using the Google form after orientation.

Students may NOT request changes to their schedules for the following reasons:

  • Changes based on teacher preference
  • Changes based on period preference
  • Adding/changing electives that were not chosen in the spring during registration

Schedule changes may be permitted for the following reasons:

  • Missing a class
  • Took and passed a class on their schedule already
  • Class level is incorrect (i.e. honors class when it should be college prep)
  • Have an open period/gap in their schedule
  • Missing their sport/dance/cheer course on the schedule (will need coach's signature to add)
  • Want to change an elective class in order to maintain A-G eligibility (for 4-year  universities)

Level Changes

If a student wishes to change levels within a course (i.e. Honors to College Prep) during the first week of school, please fill out the online Google form linked above. After the first week of school, students requesting a level change must pick up a Level Change Form from the Guidance Office. Per Board Policy, level changes must be completed by the end of the sixth week of the semester.

Seniors Requesting Free Periods

Seniors who are on track for graduation may request to have a free period. Free periods are only available in periods 1 and 6. Classes that will take a student off A-G eligibility will not be dropped, per AB 1012. Students should email their counselors to request a free period. If the free period is approved, students must fill out the necessary paperwork. Per Board Policy, a student who drops a course during the first three weeks of the semester may do so without a record on their transcript. After the first three weeks of the semester, students will drop a course with the letter grade of “F” posted to their transcript. FJUHSD does not recommend students take free periods as it can affect college acceptance, competitiveness, and/or readiness.
