As the season unfolds, we come together to celebrate the remarkable efforts of our students and embrace moments of gathering as we approach the culmination of another school year. This past week exemplified such unity as we paused to recognize the profound connections forged by each and every one of our students on a daily basis.
Central to our celebrations was the esteemed Top 100 event, a platform where the exceptional achievements of the top 25 students from each class were honored in the presence of distinguished guests, families, and friends. We rejoiced in their outstanding academic prowess and celebrated their dedication to excellence.
Words cannot express the depth of pride we feel for all your accomplishments. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our parents and staff whose unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement have been instrumental at every step of your journey.
A special acknowledgment is due to our seniors, whose commitment to academic excellence has been evident since their arrival on campus. They have not only shaped the mindset of our institution but are prepared to continue making us proud with their future endeavors.
Please join me in extending warm congratulations to these exceptional students as they inspire us all with their achievements. Please see the pictures below of a few of our honored students.

Rotary Student of the Month - Samantha Stacer
|
Last week we recognized Ms. Samantha Stacer as the Rotary Student of the Month because she is a student who has committed themselves to the classroom and academic excellence. As a Senior at Sonora, Samantha represents the heart of what we believe is our intent in providing a support system to our students that allows them to excel in the classroom, make their mark in athletic competition, and make a lasting contribution to the overall school community.
Samantha is not just another high achiever; she is the epitome of dedication, perseverance, and passion. Her academic record speaks volumes about her commitment to excellence. With an overall GPA of 4.8, Samantha has demonstrated unparalleled consistency, never receiving any grade less than an A throughout her four years at Sonora. This achievement is not merely a testament to her intelligence, but also to her unwavering work ethic and love for learning. As a full IB diploma candidate, Samantha has embraced the highest academic challenges Sonora has to offer. This prestigious program demands rigorous coursework and a depth of understanding that puts her, and other IB students, above her peers in their pursuit of the highest level of achievement. Yet, Samantha not only accepted this challenge but excelled in it, proving herself as a scholar of the highest caliber.
Beyond the classroom, Samantha is a force to be reckoned with in the pool. Beginning her swimming journey at a very young age in elementary school, Smanatha has risen as a competitive swimmer and become a team captain, where she has showcased her talent and leadership, specializing in the 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle. Her consistent qualification for CIF over the past four years is a testament to her dedication, discipline, and athletic prowess with the constant internal drive to push herself to her limit and seek to always improve.
In addition, Samantha's commitment to excellence extends far beyond academics and athletics. She is a proud member of the National Honor Society, dedicating her time and skills to serving her community through service initiatives like the Feed Brea and providing tutoring both at school and in the local community. She also volunteers her time with Brea Aquatics, providing guidance and inspiration for the next generation of student-athletes. She also has involved herself in other areas at Sonora High School with her involvement in the Journalism Club and as a student member of the School Site Council, which demonstrates her commitment to enriching the educational experience of her peers.
What truly sets Samantha apart is her intrinsic motivation and love for knowledge. Driven by an internal desire to be her best self, Samantha is not swayed by external pressures but rather finds joy in the process of learning and self-improvement. Her deep love for math and science is evident in her favorite subjects: Calculus and Biology. To Samantha, these disciplines represent not only a challenge but also a journey of discovery and understanding. Her future plans include seeking a major in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at a prestigious university, with a decision to continue her pursuits at UCLA or Berkeley. Her eventual goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon, which further reflects her unwavering commitment to using her knowledge to help others.
Behind every great individual, there is someone to help to foster future inspiration. For Samantha, one such inspiration is her 8th-grade teacher at Heights Christian, Mr. Claes, who instilled in her the belief that with dedication and effort, anything is possible. Samantha also finds her inspiration at home as it comes from her father, whose selfless sacrifices have shaped her into the exceptional young woman she is today. He is an example to her of sacrificial leadership, always providing support to her, whether that is early in the morning to provide help with homework or helping her to relieve stress as she does so in the water for practice and competition.
In conclusion, Samantha Stacer is not just a high school senior being recognized for her academic excellence; she is, a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and perseverance. As she embarks on the next chapter of her journey, I have no doubt that Samantha will continue to excel in everything she does. Congratulations, Samantha, on this well-deserved recognition, and may your future be as bright as your potential.

This past Friday, April 19th, the FACE Department hosted its inaugural FACECHELLA sensory concert in the small gym. The brainchild of Instructional Assistant Ryan Martinez, this carnival-like extravaganza included a live DJ, dancing, balloons, inflatable and oversized games, cotton candy, popcorn, and drinks and was a tremendous hit with students and adults alike! Decked out in their new t-shirts, students were treated to a BBQ thanks to grillmaster Dave Carrizosa's culinary talents.
This amazing event involved the efforts of multiple people. I want to recognize Ryan Martinez, Janie Haddad, Kelly Virden, Maggie Crail, Dave Carrizosa, and Rey Hernandez for their foresight, planning, and implementation over the past few months. A huge SHOUT OUT goes to the FACE Department teachers and Instructional Aides for their willingness, flexibility, playfulness, and careful supervision to ensure a safe and fun experience for all participants. Allison Gonzalez was a big hit for bringing in a cotton candy machine. The day was made complete by the abundant friendship and support from the Best Buddies club headed by Mitch Petersen and Laurie McGee. Ms. Virden's ASB students were instrumental in the set-up, design, and breakdown of the event. Every staff member in the FACE Department significantly contributed to making lasting memories for all of our students.

Greetings Sonora Raider Families!
AP and IB exam testing is right around the corner. Please see the schedule below. Students will receive detailed instructions from their teachers according to each exam, but we wanted to remind our community about the upcoming testing. Our students and teachers have been working diligently to prepare for these exams, and we are very excited for the students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
Most of the examinations will be held in the new gymnasium, although some of the smaller ones will be in classrooms. All of these exams are aligned with AP and IB classes, and every student knows which exams they are taking. We would ask that you encourage your student in this endeavor, and applaud their courage and tenacity in pursuing this challenge. If your child is not taking an AP or IB exam this year, perhaps it is something that they could think about pursuing before they graduate. We have teachers who are committed to helping students pursue mastery in every discipline. As always, thank you for your support.
Please reach out to me if you have any specific questions.

Academic Saturday School & Tutoring
|
Arriving at each class on time will continue to be a priority for our staff in the second semester. We want all students to understand the importance of arriving to school and class on time, every day. In addition to implementing the tardy policy below, we will also be implementing random tardy sweeps throughout the semester to encourage punctuality and remind students of the importance of being on time to ensure the opportunity for academic success. Please see the policy below as written in the Student Handbook (pg 21):
Punctuality
All students are expected to be in their scheduled class each period by the time the tardy bell rings. No students are to be in the hallways after the tardy bell rings, including those who have athletics sixth period or who have an open period at any time during the day. Students are also not to be sent on errands without an appropriate pass from the teacher. Students without passes will be sent back to class.
Consequences For Tardies
-Tardies 1-4: teacher-assigned consequences and parent contact by teacher
-Tardy Report by APSS: 5 or more tardies will result in a detention
