It took a while but warmer weather and camping season are finally upon us. Last month I de-winterized the RV and went through my spring checks. Afterwards we took the RV on a shake-down trip to the spring Auto Fair at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. While there I remembered that our TV antenna had some issues going up and down (something I missed during my spring checks) so when we got home I decided to update it with a new HD digital RV antenna. Be sure and read this month's feature article to see how the antenna installation went. With warmer weather ahead it's time to prep your RV, plan some RV trips and go have some fun! If you did not prepare your RV for this year's camping season you can go to last month's article for ideas on what to check. Enjoy the newsletter, and if you have family or friends who enjoy RVs and the RV lifestyle share with them. Happy Camping in 2017.    Mark

RV Battery Tip
Hot temperatures and overcharging kills lead acid batteries. During hot weather or periods of high usage check the batteries frequently. Checking the electrolyte levels and adding distilled water as required can save your lead acid batteries.

Caution: Always k eep safety in mind when you work on batteries. Lead acid batteries contain sulfuric acid which is extremely corrosive and can cause severe burns or blindness. The hydrogen gas that batteries produce when they're charging is very explosive. When you work around batteries you should wear goggles and gloves, remove all jewelry and do not smoke or use any open flames.

Replace your Old RV Antenna with an HD Digital RV Antenna
Last year I started having problems with our old bat-wing style TV antenna on the RV, so I decided to replace it with a digital RV antenna. After some research on the topic I decided to go with the Rayzar Z1 HD digital RV antenna by Winegard. There were several reasons I selected this antenna. It is low profile, lightweight and it picks up free HD channels wherever you travel. Another reason I selected this antenna is because it can replace the existing antenna with minimal work.   Read More

Automobile Telescoping Apartment

In 1916, for the price of $100, you could purchase an aftermarket telescoping apartment to install on you model T Ford truck.

The side sections and the rear section expanded outward to give campers additional living space. When it was time to travel both of the side cabinets slide in and the rear section telescopes into the main compartment and is secured.

This was one of my favorite displays at the RV Museum & Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana. If you like RVs and history you should plan an RV trip to the RV Museum.

RV Buzz Tip: Review all of your Paperwork
Preparation and planning can go a long way in making your RV trips more enjoyable. For example, after prepping the RV for another great camping season I decided to review some of the paperwork I keep in the RV. I'm glad I did because I noticed our Emergency Roadside Service (ERS) plan expires in two months.

I thought about what a pain it would be to have a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and no ERS plan to assist in replacing the tire. It just goes to show you how easy it is to overlook things sometimes.

With that said, and another adventure packed camping season upon us, take a minute to review any and all paperwork concerning your RV. Some simple preventive measures now can save you time, money and headaches later.

NEW Updated & Revised

There are many different types of RVs and many different price ranges, but they all have a few things in common. They offer us the same comfort and conveniences of our home when we are traveling. For RVs to offer these temporary living quarters three things are necessary: LP gas so we can cook, have hot water and stay warm. Water for drinking, cooking, cleaning and showers. Electricity for cooking, lights, keeping food cold, entertainment and creature comforts. But, just how does an RV work?

For only $12.95 you can't go wrong with this information packed e-book.
