Hello Friends,

We achieved and surpassed our FY23 goal to serve 180 families! I am so grateful to the RTMC Board & Committee Members and very proud of our RTMC Staff Team for working together to make this happen. Since RTMC was founded in 1990, we have never served 182 families in one year! Congratulations to all on setting this impressive record. This year’s goal was 20% higher than last year and the team crushed it!

Our team worked incredibly hard, and I would like to thank them, along with our wonderful contractors, for working tirelessly all year long. The best news of all is that thanks to our collective dedication, there are literally hundreds of folks out there right now living in safer, healthier homes. Many of the repairs we made will allow vulnerable seniors to successfully age in place for years to come and help struggling family avoid displacement. It’s truly the gift that keeps on giving. Every member of our RTMC community should all feel proud of playing a part in this great success.

Congratulations to all and special thanks to Mat Saunders for leading our Program Team to victory! His recent promotion to Director of Program Services was well deserved. Also, my gratitude to:

Christina Devlin, Office Manager

Gabby Garcia, Program Services Manager

Vivian Bacarreza Navarro, Bilingual Project Coordinator

Shelby Badger, AmeriCorps Client Outreach Coordinator

Beki Mitiku, Community Project Manager (former)

Becky Shank, AmeriCorps Community Project Coordinator

Karen Kozopas, Project Coordinator (volunteer)

Augustine Freeman, AmeriCorps Project Coordinator (former)

Alyssa Stagno, CPA Beckwith & Brown

We also couldn’t have done it without our terrific contractors, amazing volunteers and groups, and generous donors who stepped up again and again to help our neighbors in need. As always, your support and partnership are greatly appreciated. We appreciate YOU!

With gratitude,

Maury Peterson

Executive Director

Welcome, Becky!

We are pleased to welcome Rebecca (Becky) Shank to the RTMC Team! Becky recently retired from HUD where she was the Senior Advisor/Special Assistant to the Director at the Department Enforcement Center. As an attorney, she has extensive experience in a variety of roles at HUD and in the private sector. She earned a JD at the University of Maryland Law School and an AB in Political Science from Mount Holyoke College. In her new role, Becky will serve as our AmeriCorps Community Project Coordinator focused on outreach to help us reach more neighbors in need. Welcome, Becky!

Partnering with The Home Depot to Serve Veterans

The RTMC Team sends our gratitude to our volunteer friends from The Home Depot who came out despite the rainy weather to help RTMC homeowner clients, Mr. and Mrs. R. of Gaithersburg, MD. Mr. R. is a 90-year-old Veteran who served in the US Army. The Home Depot group jumped in to transform the yard, cleaning and trimming and adding mulch and flowers. They also repaired the deck, garage door, fence gate, downspout and installed a new mailbox. Special thanks to Adam Goslin at The Home Depot Foundation and to Jill Stimpson, Store Leader at the Winchester Home Depot #4618 for her leadership to bring the project to fruition. Like RTMC, The Home Depot is passionate about giving back to our veterans and we were glad to partner on this project to help a veteran in need.
