About Secretary Wall
Ed Wall is the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, appointed by Governor Scott Walker as a member of his cabinet, with the advice and consent of the State Senate. Secretary Wall leads an exceptionally talented group of state employees who are dedicated to public safety. The Department of Corrections employs more than 10,000 people who are responsible for administering the department's resources across Wisconsin.
Secretary Wall earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management from Excelsior College and is a Graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California.
Secretary Wall has spent his entire professional career in emergency public services. He began his law enforcement career in 1986 as a police officer in Meriden, Connecticut, before being appointed in 1989 as a State Trooper in New Hampshire. In New Hampshire, he worked uniformed patrol for five years before being appointed to Detective in the Narcotics Investigation Unit for five years. In 1999 he moved his family to his wife's home state of Wisconsin, where he was appointed as a Special Agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). During his law enforcement career, he has worked in Uniform Patrol, Undercover Narcotics, Major Crimes, Special Operations and Criminal Intelligence.
Secretary Wall served as Special Agent in Charge of the DCI Investigative Services Bureau when he was appointed by Governor Jim Doyle as Administrator of Wisconsin's Division of Emergency Management. In April 2010, he returned to DCI when appointed by Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen as the Division Administrator. In October 2012, he was called upon to continue his public safety service by Governor Walker to serve in his cabinet role as the Secretary of the Department of Corrections.
Secretary Wall holds numerous leadership positions with state and national boards dealing with law enforcement training, national security, criminal intelligence and law enforcement executive-related functions.
