2018 RIMA Legislative Achievements

  • This was a challenging year in the General Assembly for legislation submitted at the State Level; nonetheless RIMA accomplished quite a bit on several fronts. The first was regarding the “Sole-Prop” Healthcare legislation submitted by Representative Deb Ruggiero, Chair, House Committee on Small Business
  • RIMA and other business groups led the charge to get this legislation passed. In a collective effort between the House and Senate this important legislation was passed
  • This legislation will allow small businesses with one owner and S-Corps to return to the small group market to purchase healthcare and secure representation from a broker or agent
  • We opposed several pieces of legislation that would be a burden to the business community -especially manufacturers
  • We have been influential regarding manufacturing issues by meeting with those Senator’s and House Representatives. Numerous meetings on other pieces of legislation resulted in these individuals listening and understanding the implication of possible passage. More than ever, we have presented RIMA as part of the solution and not part of the problem
