Celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd with RHD. As a values-driven organization, RHD is committed to creating a community that recognizes the need to protect and care for the environment. RHD’s programs frequently see Earth Day as an opportunity for activities such as neighborhood clean-ups, gardening, and more. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, which is also the year RHD was founded! The theme of this year’s Earth Day is “Invest in Our Planet”, so what can you do today to help the environment tomorrow? For more information, go to earthday.org.

As soon as one enters RHD’s DeFuniak Springs program, an immediate familiar feeling of “home” can be felt. Established in 1998 as a day program for individuals with intellectual disabilities, the program recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, DeFuniak Springs staff organized an incredible event, complete with a DJ and photo booth! It was held at their local community center, where staff transformed the space by adorning the walls with photos and artwork created by participants over the last 25 years.

“I love going to New York City because of the noisy sounds. The city never sleeps,” says Allen Yu, an artist at RHD’s Center for Creative Works (CCW). Allen was one of 11 artists CCW showcased during their exhibit at this year’s Outsider Art Fair in New York City. The Outsider Art Fair is an annual event dedicated to unconventional works created by self-taught and often neurodivergent artists. This year’s fair ran from March 2-5 and featured 64 exhibitors from 28 cities in eight countries. CCW sales during the 2023 fair totaled over $33,000, making it their best year yet!
