RENT LOCAL Pilot Program a Success
21 New Units Added to Long-Term Rental Market
On August 1, Big Sky Community Housing Trust launched its Pilot RENT LOCAL incentive program to create immediate inventory in response to Big Sky's housing emergency.

Thanks to funding from Resort Tax and Spanish Peaks Community Foundation, RENT LOCAL continues to offer cash to owners who flip their vacation rentals (or vacant units) into homes for local workers.
"I made some make do privacy curtains and my coworker camped in his van in front of me, which made me feel safer. Living in your car in Montana in the summer is almost a treat, but lots of people are having to leave because winter here in a vehicle is almost impossible. There's just nothing available, even if you're willing to pay twice the rent."

RiverView's Last Chance for Federal Funding in 2021
Montana Housing to Award Remaining $6.1 Million
On October 18, the Montana Board of Housing chose four of eight housing projects across Montana, excluding BSCHT's RiverView Apartments, to receive federal funding.

The Board of Housing will meet again on November 15 to prioritize the final recipient(s) of the remainder low income housing tax credits.

BSCHT hopes to receive these funds to build RiverView Apartments and needs your help. Please mail letters in support of RiverView Apartments to Montana Housing by November 5.

"Inaugural CommUNITY Forum fosters community engagement"

"Laura Seyfang, executive director of the Big Sky Community Housing Trust, said the evening was a fabulous learning opportunity and she applauded BSRAD for putting the event together.

'I had one community member who was really concerned about the fact that we didn’t get federal funding through the [Low-income Housing Tax Credit] award and was interested to know what we were going to do about it,' she said.

That community member, Seyfang said, had a background in investment banking and offered to help the housing trust with next steps."
