Dear RADx-UP Partners,

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Please take a moment to recognize and learn about the contributions of individuals in AAPI communities in science, art, and American history.

During this month, we would specifically like to highlight the 49 RADx-UP projects that primarily engage Asian and Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities. Thank you for your important work with and for these communities.

In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, the CDCC would like to highlight how one RADx-UP project team in Hawaii is empowering schools as community assets to mitigate the adverse impacts of COVID-19.

RADx-UP researchers at the University of Hawaii at Monoa and community partners are working to foster youth health literacy and well-being.

The diverse, multi-site academic-community research team partnered with Hawaii-based game developers to create and test an interactive role-playing board game.

The game promotes a Native Hawaiian framework of well-being through lōkahi – balance and harmony with one’s cultural identity, sense of purpose, and connection to family, community, and land.

Players learn about themselves as they decide to navigate the challenges presented in each quest in the pursuit of harmony (lōkahi) realm.

It’s hard to believe it's been four years since the National Institutes of Health (NIH) launched RADx-UP during the COVID-19 pandemic — a historic investment in health equity research among underserved populations.

The CDCC recently published a dynamic timeline where users can follow the RADx-UP journey and learn more about key milestones.

Reminder: Check RADx-UP grant numbers when publishing research

The CDCC would like to remind project teams that when publishing research, it is crucial to cite the grant number in the funding statement exactly as it appears in the list of RADx-UP projects.

The RADx-UP Tracking & Evaluation team tracks RADx-UP project publications by searching RADx-UP project grant numbers in PubMed and Scopus databases.

Deadline to upload RADx-UP CDEs

The deadline to upload new CDE data to the CDCC is Dec. 6, 2024.

The CDCC will be communicating more details regarding the new deadline for new uploads of project data to the CDCC via the myRADxUPhome portal or Colectiv. New uploads refer to data that has not been previously shared with the CDCC.

Analyze data in the new RADx Data Hub

The NIH RADx Data Hub will launch an entirely new look and feel, along with exciting new analysis features in spring 2024.

On May 14, 2024, 12-1 p.m. EST NIH Data Hub Partners will showcase what users can expect in the RADx Data Hub upgrade. Register to attend.

Partners will also share information about a funding opportunity related to secondary analysis in the Data Hub (NOT-OD-24-026).

Now available: Equity Evidence Academy Summaries

The CDCC is pleased to share the RADx-UP Equity Evidence Academy (EA4) Summary Report in English and Spanish.

The summaries share key insights and takeaways from EA4 on Sept. 27-28, 2023. The CDCC hopes this document will encourage continued conversations and collaborative work to enhance engagement between academic researchers and communities.

As the RADx-UP Evidence Academy series concludes, you are invited to explore past COVID-19 Equity Evidence Academy presentations.

Group Model Building RISE Platform

You may have seen the demonstration of the Equitable COVID-19 Testing: A Multi-Perspective View of the Complexities platform during April’s RADx-UP project-wide meeting.

The RADx-UP CDCC Building Community Capacity and Impact (BCCI) Working Group collaborated with the CDCC Group Model Building team to create a visual representation of what helps, or hurts, equitable COVID-19 testing.

Share your cough with AI?

The California-based company Virufy is using artificial intelligence to analyze an individual's cough to detect unique sound patterns associated with respiratory problem, including those that may indicate the COVID-19 infection.

The app analyzes nuances in a cough, including duration, frequency and intensity.
