Goal for 2020: Blankets for 25,000 Children in Foster Care

Together we can do it, one blanket at a time! Current number: 8,880

My Very Own Blanket is still up and running to bring blankets of love, comfort and hope to children in foster care. Here is how you can help us do just that!

  • Order blanket kits online here. Use our "curbside" pick up and drop off bin just outside our Blanket Workshop to safely receive and donate your blankets!

  • Drop off your quilted, crocheted and knitted blankets in the donation bin outside our workshop. We gather them up daily. (Thanks to Maggie for creating the 7 beautiful crocheted blankets shown above!)

  • Not local to Central Ohio? Sponsor our "no-sew" blanket kits online to have them sent to you. We will help you get in contact with your local children's services to deliver to kids in care in your area!
Do you advocate for children in foster care?

If you are a caseworker or advocate for children in foster care, we would love to provide blankets that you can share with kids who could use something to hold onto. Just tell us how many you need. 614-530-3327 or info@myveryownblanket.org

A new heavenly blanket angel
Martin, our 'most senior' blanket angel volunteer, is pictured here with his daughter Barb. We were sad to learn that he passed away on August 24 at nearly 102 years of age.

Continuing his lifetime of community volunteering, Martin worked with the quilt group at Otterbein, his retirement community in St. Mary's, Ohio, cutting over the years more than 100,000 squares for the quilters to assemble into blankets for MVOB! We are very grateful for Martin's contribution to our mission. He will be greatly missed.

New Washington Quilters benefit their community
The New Washington Community Quilters is a group of 10 – 15 women who, in normal times, meet monthly at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Washington, a small town in Crawford County, Ohio, to assemble and knot blankets and share a potluck lunch.

They donate over 200 blankets a year to various local organizations that serve children in foster care and other children in need, including Harmony House, Crawford County Job and Family Services, Salvation Army, Red Cross, BORN, and WIC.

The group especially enjoys making blankets, bibs, sleep sacks and other items for infants and preschoolers.
Although the group has not been meeting at the church since March, they continue to sew at home and hope to resume monthly meetings soon.

We are very grateful for this group of dedicated quilters who work with My Very Own Blanket and other non-profit organizations to make a difference in their community.
Mother and daughter work together to make sponsored blankets

This mother-daughter team, Joann (left) and her mother Gladys, stops by every week to pick up our sponsored “no-sew” fleece blankets. Joann starts the process by cutting the fringe. Her mother, who lives with her, ties and finishes the blankets.

Both are grateful for this opportunity, which provides a meaningful activity for Gladys and for other seniors, whether they live in a retirement center or at home with children. And we are grateful -- for their help, for the sponsors, and for the love and hope we can give to children in foster care, through a simple thing like a blanket of their very own.
Thank you, blanket kit sponsors!
These are just some of the many people who sponsor blankets for our senior generation to make in assisted living and memory care units during this time of COVID and strict social distancing from family members, friends and neighbors in the facilities where they live.

Blanket Angel Snapshots
Mary Lou donned her mask and brought us five beautiful quilts.
Many thanks to Cross Creek Caring Campers, who donated 18 blankets that they made during leisure time at a local camping resort.
This Mom and daughter sewed a blanket for us to give to a child in foster care! With our super cool “blue button” they added the blanket to our 2020 total.
