Global Intergenerational Week Fun!
|
|
We celebrated Global Intergenerational Week 2024 (#GIW24) by hosting our very first Multi-Generational Mix & Mingle at the Fenway Community Center on April 25th! We welcomed over 80 older & younger program participants, volunteers, community partners, and longtime supporters! Check out some of the party pictures here.
One of our favorite activities from GIW was the community tree we all grew at the mixer. We asked guests
1) If someone asked you why intergenerational programs are important, what would you say?
or
|
|
2) What motivates you to keep coming back to our programs or what’s been you’re favorite part of programs? The responses on each leaf show how ESSENTIAL social connection is between generations.
"I like making friends with young people. It makes me younger."
"Learning different perspectives from all different walks of life."
"Mutual understanding, respect, and support."
"Inherit the virtue of respecting and loving the elderly."
"Learning new things."
"I love these moments."
"We cannot have a future without learning from our history."
For ALL to grow and age in health, we must continue to celebrate in moments like this and provide programs to do so!

A new Creative Connections class started in May with instructor, Pasha, from OmDrum. This is a weekly, guided, instructional drum circle at Veronica Smith Multi Senior Center in Brighton. What could be more important than making sure isolated older adults have the programs they NEED? It's not just nice, it's ESSENTIAL for healthy aging.
Social isolation impacts physical and emotional health. It poses serious risks to millions of older adults — it has been linked to higher blood pressure and increased risk of stroke, among other things.
