SPRING 2024

Dear Members,

We've had a busy spring season! Our association has grown to record numbers, and we're excited to announce the addition of two new leagues, North Carolina Soccer League (NCSL) and Transylvania Adult Soccer Association (TASA).

Carolinas Cup Charleston 8 v 8 kicks off Memorial Day Weekend! Over 65 teams are registered - 19 teams are from North Carolina! There's still time to register. Make your holiday a weekend of competitive soccer! While you're there, spend time at the beach and enjoy music, art, and food at Charleston's Spoleto Festival.

Mark your calendars! USASA Soccer Fest returns to Greensboro in July! Registration is still open.

Don't forget! Your NCASA membership provides access to all USASA sanctioned tournaments nationwide! No need to buy additional tournament passes.

If you're not currently an active NCASA member, but plan to attend tournaments, please purchase a Player Pass. Both Annual & Tournament Only passes are available.

We hope you had a successful spring season, and we look forward to seeing you at our tournaments this summer!

USASA AED Reimbursement Program

Cardiac arrest is among the leading causes of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, 436,000 cardiac arrest deaths occur each year in the U.S.(1)

Getting help as soon as possible is critical because the chance of survival decreases with every passing minute.

After three to five minutes of cardiac arrest, irreversible brain damage can occur. After about 10 minutes, the patient likely will not survive.

Unfortunately, the average response time for first responders (once 911 is called) is 8-12 minutes. An AED can help someone in distress until first responders arrive, and help save a life! (2)

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that analyzes the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, delivers an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.(3)

Recognizing the need for AEDs to be made available at adult soccer games, USASA launched its AED Reimbursement Program in 2024, to provide a $250 reimbursement for member AED purchases.

Building on the financial support provided by USASA, NCASA helped further subsidize the purchase of AEDs bringing the total AED cost down to $400! Less than half the normal cost!

30 leagues and teams took advantage of this opportunity, which shows how seriously everyone takes player safety.

NCASA is pleased to be able to offer an AED subsidy to our leagues, and to participate in the USASA AED Reimbursement program. NCASA is looking into ways to continue this program in future years.

Pitt Greenville Goals!

As a state association, supporting our leagues is our top priority. That is why NCASA offers grants to help our leagues provide fun, competitive and safe soccer.

This spring, the NCASA Board of Directors awarded an equipment grant to Pitt Greenville Soccer Association Adult League (PGSAAL) for the purchase of soccer goals.

Up until now, PGSAAL used 11v11 sized-goals for its 8v8 league play. PGSAAL decided that it was in the best interest of the league to switch to appropriate-sized goals to improve player experience, and in turn, increase player registration.

PGSAAL reached out to NCASA and requested NCASA assistance with making this purchase. The Board reviewed the request, and unanimously approved a purchase of three sets of 7’ x 21’ goals from PEVO Sports a Wilmington, NC manufacturer.

Here’s to many top bins, PGSAAL!

“TASA’s mission is to promote healthy competition, camaraderie, community engagement, and supporting the growth and development of youth soccer through collaboration with Transylvania Youth Soccer Association (TYSA), according to TASA President, Adam Spencer.

We wish TASA a successful first season!
