A message from our Executive Director

We are saddened to inform you about the death of two of our beloved survivors, Mrs. Ilse Kahn and Mrs. Bea Karp. May their memories always be for a blessing.
Kitty Williams and Dr. Fred Kader continue to give their testimony and have spoken in the last few months all across the metro area. Hazzan Michael Krausman and Dr. Steven Wees have also been telling the story of their family as members of the second generation (children of) survivors.
We are looking forward to our annual Week of Understanding beginning March 25 when in the course of five days over 5000 people will hear the stories of our local survivors and three survivors who are coming in from out of state. There are two programs that will be open to the public. First, on Tuesday, March 26 at Countryside Community Church at 7pm Peter Metzelaar from Seattle will present, “How I survived the Holocaust : The Story of a Hidden Child,” and on Wednesday, March 26 at Temple Israel at 6:30 pm Magda Brown from Chicago will present, “My Story of Survival.”
Finally, I hope that you will join us on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 pm
at Temple Israel for our annual Yom HaShoah Commemoration.
Thank you,
Scott Littky

Art in the Holocaust
Gallery at the Omaha JCC
April 1-26
|
Annually, the IHE trains middle school art teachers to build their knowledge of the Holocaust and the role of art during that period of history. Participating teachers then share this information with their students, using it an inspiration for a visual art project.
Upon completion, students prepare a written reflection on the project.
The Art & the Holocaust project culminates each year in an exhibit of art work in the gallery at the Jewish Community Center along with a reception for the artists, their parents, and their teachers. Local Holocaust survivors are also present.
Stop by to see this year's submissions.
