Center for Economic Education & Entrepreneurship
2nd quarter 2017 newsletter

During the spring, the CEEE hosts a myriad of experiential learning opportunities and produces exciting, high-energy student competitions that showcase Delaware students' year-long efforts. In addition, during UD Alumni Weekend, we honor educational partners who are making a difference in our community. Spring is, indeed, a time to celebrate the accomplishments of our students, alums, and partners.

Recent Lerner Alumni Award of Excellence recipient Becky Reed (MAEEE, 2001) was once told by a UD professor that, no matter which of the social studies she wound up teaching, he was sure she would teach it through an economic lens. In fact, she's done just that, encouraging students and fellow teachers to always examine situations from different perspectives. On most issues, economics will provide the framework and thought discipline needed to critically examine opposing viewpoints. Such valuable skills must be taught if we expect students to graduate with the ability to analyze the world in which they live.

The MAEEE program expands the reach of such valuable lessons. Founded on the principle that properly trained and motivated teachers will enthusiastically give back to their own educational communities, the degree program hosts U.S. and international teachers and connects them with valuable thought partners who challenge and encourage each other with better content and methods. We graduated our largest cohort of master teachers this past May; in June, we welcomed a new class to campus, eleven Delaware educators among them.

I invite you to read on about what we're accomplishing together. We continue to offer K-12 students and teachers opportunities to explore the learning possibilities that await them. As always, we thank you for your interest and support of our programs and we look forward to our continued partnership.
