"Good fences make good neighbors"...
but don't lose your property tax break
If your property is contributing, be careful when considering placing a fence/wall on the front of your property. Walls on the sides and back do not disqualify the property, but walls that are in front block the view of the house and disqualify it for the property tax reduction..
Recently we have met some folks who did not know that their home qualified as a contributing property to the Jefferson Park National Historic District. Residences that are contributors will allow their owners to get a sizeable property tax break. But you must register your property.
CLICK
to find the registration information.
If you think your home is over 50 years old and might qualify, look at the nomination list of the Jefferson Park contributing properties.

"Open Fencing" allows this home protection and does not disqualify it as a contributing property
A combination wall and bars allows the view of the home and does not disqualify this home.

Jefferson Park, Catalina Vista and Blenman/Elm representatives meet with Banner to bring news back to the respective neighborhoods about the construction progress. The latest Banner project is located in the green space on Lester east of Warren (see map above). The theme of the park is the history of the site--the location of the UA ROTC polo team field and the location of the Quonset huts for returning WWII veterans and their families.
A presentation of the project will be given at the November 28 Jefferson Park Meeting, 6pm, WARD III, 1510 E Grant Road. Catalina Vista, Blenman/Elm and nearby neighborhoods are cordially invited.

A MENACE! GET THOSE GOAT HEADS NOW
After the rains they are easy to pull. Watch for small, just sprouting, new plants before they go to seed!
Puncturevine, from the Zygophyllaceae or (Caltrop family) and sometimes better known as a "goathead", is a plant designed to survive. From the time the seed sprouts until it blooms and starts to form seed can vary, but usually only takes 2 - 3 weeks. The plant will continue to grow and produce seed until it is stopped. The first freeze will kill the plant in the fall.
The seed is an amazing product of natural selection. The seed coat is extremely durable (as you well know if you've ever stepped on one with a bare foot) and in the right conditions can last upwards of 20 years.
Pull entire vine (from the center) and put it in garbage with goatheads attached. Each goathead is a seed!
