BBD Logo          Quantifying the GAP

 Dear (Contact First Name),

Following on from our discussion of the SKILLS GAP, a recent summary of a study done by Plant Engineering Magazine caught my eye. Not that it adds to the definition of the issue, but it does add real numbers to give scale and scope to the challenge that continues to grow and plague manufacturing in the USA.

Basically, a substantial number of manufacturing jobs are going unfilled due to lack of critical skills.  This impedes growth and heightens concerns of retiring baby boomers and  who will be running our manufacturing facilities in the future.  For those of us who design and build the tools of modern manufacturing, it places additional requirements on our designs to address the skills gap.  While the growth in US manufacturing is a welcome trend, feeding and sustaining it remains quite a different challenge.

Below, I have included a summary of the study results as well as a link to the entire study for those of you interested in the detail.
