Root Division Finds Home in Central Market


 

Since losing their space in the Mission, Root Division took temporary residence at 1059 Market Street. The arts organization reported a 40% increase in foot traffic since that move. Now it appears they will be staying in Central Market District with a long term lease at 1131 Mission Street. Read about the organization and their new home on SF Chronicle and Hoodline.

Painted Bulb-Outs at Howard Street

As part of San Francisco's ongoing Vision Zero project, which started on 6th Street, the SFMTA announced new painted bulb-outs on three intersections along Howard Street. Read more about the project at

 


 

Three More Bicycle Counters Coming


 

The first digital display bicycle counter, or "bicycle barometer", was installed in Central Market District for Bike To Work Day in 2013. Meant to encourage bicycling as well as provide metrics for city planning, three more counters are scheduled to arrive with proposed locations on Valencia Street, Embarcadero, and Market Street. Planning Department Launches Map App

Updated Design for Food Hall Apartments

Curbed SF provides renderings of an updated design to the 186 apartments coming to the former Hollywood Billiards site. Though the building will rise mid-block, Tidewater's managing principal, Craig Young, described the plan as lending a corner-like presence.





Affordable Units Coming to old Hugo Hotel

Abandoned since 1988, demolition crews have begun work on the site of the old "Defenestration" building. Once complete, the new Mercy Housing building will have 67 affordable housing units and active ground floor retail spaces to support the local community,






Plans Underway at 119 7th Street

American Pacific International Capital plans to build an 8-stor mixed use structure with 39 new residences. The building will have ground floor retail space and a rooftop garden. SF Business Times has more on the group behind the project.

Market Street Prototyping Festival 

 

Part of the Better Market Street Project, the 250,000 daily travelers along Market Street will discover artist installations along Market Street this April 9th to 11th. With over 50 finalists, installations range from "Data Lanterns" to billowing sheets of fabric meant to evoke the fog.
