Creating Change 2017 is almost here! Thousands of LGBTQ activists are due to converge in Philadelphia this week for the annual national conference for LGBTQ leaders and organizers. To help you get the most out of your time at the conference, we've compiled a list of the sessions that focus specifically on philanthropy, fundraising and financial management. RESOURCES
Research, Resources and Updates 
  • U.S. middle and high schools remain hostile environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) students, according to GLSEN's National School Climate Survey. However, the report, which documents school climate, its effects on student outcomes and the availability and benefits of school-based supports for LGBTQ students, also shows significant signs of improvement in these areas since 2001. Requests for Proposals
  • The Trans Justice Funding Project recently announced a call for applications for the 2017 grant cylce. This grant supports grassrots trans justice organizations run by and for trans people. The deadline for applications is February 15th, 2017.  Additional information about eligability and application instructions  available here. 
  • The Arcus Foundation has announced limited funding that will help grantees address specific, short-term needs and pressures they are experiencing in light of new external realities at the U.S. federal level. These one-time, non-renewable awards will be considered on a first come, first served basis. The application can be found here . Application deadline is January 20, 2017.
  • The Fund for Trans Generations is offering two funding opportunities for trans-led projects and organizations. Rapid Response funding to support timely and strategic opportunities facing trans communities will be offered on an ongoing basis. Additionally, the fund will offer g eneral operating support funding  for trans-led organizing and movement building. Rapid response funding is available on an ongoing basis. More information on both funding opportunities is available here . 



Recent Grant Announcements
  • The U.S. Department of Interior announced on Thursday that it has awarded the D.C. Office of Historic Preservation a $50,000 grant to help identify LGBT-related sites of significance in the District that would be eligible for being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.   • The Johnson Family Foundation earlier this month awarded separate $25,000 grants to the D.C. Center for the LGBT Community and the D.C. LGBT youth services organization SMYAL for the purpose of "increasing the variety and quality of mental health services they provide." Read more here.

Paul Di Donato
Paul Di Donato was recently appointed to President of the Proteus Fund. Paul is stepping into this role after leading Proteus' successful Civil Marriage Collaborative for eight years. Congratulations on this great news, Paul!

Jennie Lehua Watson , formerly the Fund's vice president of special initiatives and communications, will serve as interim president of the Fund for the next two years.  Cathy Cha , formerly program director for immigrant rights, is now vice president of programs and will become president of the Fund in 2019. Congratulations Jennie and Cathy! 

Paul Moore
CenterLink: The Community of LGBT Centers recently announced the appointment of
Paul Moore as Co-Chair of the national CenterLink board of directors.  Moore is the Program Officer of the Los Angeles based David Bohnett Foundation.  Cece Cox,  CEO of Resource Center in Dallas, TX, was also named as Co-Chair. Congrats, Paul and Cece!
