Wednesday, December 4th (San Francisco, CA) - Bay Area Queer Leaders in Philanthropy is hosting a gathering of LGBT leaders in philanthropy for networking; strengthening, sustaining and promoting LGBT philanthropic leadership; and building community and solidarity amongst LGBT philanthropic professionals. Research, Resources and Updates 
  • "An Impossible Choice: LGBT Workers and Family Leave Laws"
    MAP, Center for American Progress, and HRC have a new report out that explores the ways in which discriminatory laws and unequal access to family and medical leave forces LGBTQ people to make difficult choices between managing personal crises and retaining their job for their livelihood.  
  • "A Broken Bargain for LGBT Workers of Color"
    MAP, Center for American Progress, HRC, Freedom to Work, FIRE, and the National Black Justice Coalition have released a new report on the unique challenges LGBT workers of color face related to their race and ethnicity and their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.  
  • "Growth in Foundation Support for Media in the United States"
    This new report by the Foundation Center, with support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Wyncote Foundation, in collaboration with Media Impact Funders, Guidestar and the Ford Foundation, aims to give a fuller picture of media-related grantmaking by U.S. Foundations.
Requests for Proposals
  • Point Foundation
    The Point Foundation is now accepting applications for 2014 scholarships. Applicants who successfully fill out Part 1 will be notified to proceed to part 2 by January 22.
  • Pride Foundation
    Pride Foundation is accepting applications for scholarships due January 15.
  • Independent Sector
    Independent Sector has opened nominations for the 2014 John W. Gardner Leadership Award. The deadline is January 31.

Recent Grant Award Announcements

  • Nike
    Nike is entering the marriage equality fight in the company's home state of Oregon. Nike has set up the Nike Equality PAC with seed funding of $280,000 ($100,000 from the company and $180,000 from a pool of top executives).
  • The LGBT Fund of Greater Rochester Giving Circle
    The LGBT Fund of Greater Rochester Giving Circle has awarded $18,000 in grants to 11 nonprofits. This is the group's second year of grantmaking, and they more than doubled both the amount granted and the number of grantees.
  • The Staples Foundation
    The Staples Foundation has awarded $5,000 to the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition in Boston. This grant is made possible by the 2 Million and Change program, under the direction of Staples, Inc. associates. The grant will fund a New Leaders Institute and LGBTQ mentorship program.
  • The Jewish Fund
    The Jewish Fund awarded a $158,630 three-year grant to Affirmations, a community center for LGBT people and allies located outside of Detriot. The grant will support and expand health and wellness programming.
