Crime-Solving Cameras
A new layer of crime-fighting technology is already solving crimes in the North Houston District. Ten automated license plate recognition cameras are helping local law enforcement investigate leads in the District, across the Greater Houston Area, and nationwide.
|
|
|
The cameras were built by Flock Safety, a public safety technology company that helps neighborhoods, communities, and law enforcement work together to fight crime.
Tracy Harrison, North Houston District’s Vice President of Public Safety, spearheaded the project and will manage implementation in partnership with Harris County Sheriff's Office and Houston Police Department. For more, please read our press release.

National Night Out Celebration
|
|
North Houston District's 2022 National Night Out Celebration was a true celebration of unity in our community. Thank you to all our sponsors and partners and to all the families and community members who hung out with us. Amongst a flurry of games, music, activities, and family fun, bonds were built with local police officers, firefighters, and first responders.
National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while deepening the sense of community in our area. The evening provides an opportunity to bring police and neighbors together, with the ultimate goal of reducing crime.

Community Cuties
Community engagement is an important part of our work at the North Houston District, so when the Aldine Branch Library offered us a spot at the No Tricks, Just Treats Halloween Party in October, we jumped at the opportunity.

METRO developed a plan that addresses the growing demand for expansion of public transit called METRO NEXT. As part of that plan, 17 high-ridership local bus routes will be improved to add speed, reliability, and access. The METRO BOOST program includes the 56 bus, which has 124 stops departing from the Texas Medical Center Transit Center and ending in the Greenspoint Transit Center. North Houston District is partnering with METRO on this project and expects substantial improvements to accessible transportation.

Greens Road Project Continues

Since October 2020, the City of Houston has been working on a sewer infrastructure project that runs along Greens Road, causing traffic in the area.
According to Houston Public Works, construction near Tom Wussow Park is complete. Progress has slowed due to equipment shortages, but construction is ongoing. Once the sewer project is complete, enhanced pedestrian crosswalks are planned at Greens Road and Imperial Valley.
