ANNE SULLIVAN

The museum was visited by a film crew from Nippon TV for the program Memorable Scenery (Kokoro ni kizamu Fukei). The program introduces the stories of famous people from around the world by showing their memorable places/houses. The next episode is about Anne Sullivan, who as a young child, was a resident of the Tewksbury Almshouse from 1876- 1880. The crew was also visiting Helen Keller’s birthplace in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

2020 In Review
From navigating a global pandemic to breakthroughs in treatment and prevention, our collection shows that, as a nation, we have been here before. And, as history has demonstrated, Americans are resilient, resourceful and innovative.

2020 was a year of opportunity for the museum, challenging us to stay in touch, move to new formats and continue bringing public health history and current events to the community. We thank you for your interest and dedication as we navigate our new normal. All the best for 2021!

Honoring WWII U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps

Dr. Barbara Poremba, past board member of the Public Health Museum and professor at Salem State University, is a tireless advocate for recognition of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps as honored veterans. OUR PANDEMIC PROJECT

In an effort to create context for the COVID-19 pandemic and the public health response, museum volunteers, students and staff created the Pandemic Timeline. Walk through history and learn about the innovation and resilience of Americans as they navigated public health crises in the past. The parallels to our modern response are quite striking.
