SPHS Students and Families,

As we approach the beginning of a new school year this week, our staff is filled with excitement for and anticipation of the memories, successes, and growth that lies ahead. At Shadle Park High School, we firmly believe that attendance is a cornerstone of academic and personal success. Each day at school presents an opportunity for students to engage with lessons that make them collaborate and think critically, make connections with others and build lasting friendships, and acquire valuable 21st century skills that will ensure you are opportunity ready for your future beyond Shadle. We are committed to fostering a challenging, supportive, loving, and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. As families, your partnership in ensuring regular attendance plays a pivotal role in this endeavor.

To kickstart this journey, we invite you to our upcoming Launch Conferences. If you have not done so already, please sign up for a Launch Conference. Launch Conferences will take place next Thursday August 31st and next Friday September 1st. Launch Conferences are a time to meet with your student’s Advisor, check out a laptop, review their classes and graduation progress, review our school focus and expectations for the year, and get any of your questions answered to ensure a strong school-family partnership and a smooth start to a successful year.

Following Launch Conferences, the first day of classes will be Tuesday September 5th beginning at 8:00am.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Chris Dunn

Principal, Shadle Park HS

STUDENT SCHEDULES FOR 23-24

When making schedule change requests, please keep in mind that our master schedule was developed based on the conversations students had with their school counselor last February to ensure they were registering for classes that both fulfill their graduation requirements as well as align with their passions. As a reference regarding schedule changes, please see the lists below regarding changes that can be fulfilled and schedule changes that cannot be fulfilled.

Schedule changes which CAN be fulfilled:

  • Missing a course required to fulfill a graduation requirement
  • Less than six classes
  • Error in schedule
  • Based on course availability, a change in elective

Schedule changes which CANNOT be fulfilled:

  • The desire for a specific teacher/class period/lunch/etc.
  • Dropping a dual-credit (AP, CiHS) or honors course before the beginning of the semester (exceptions made based on overall academic rigor within a student’s schedule)
  • Dropping a math course in the junior year or CADR required quantitative course in senior year

LAUNCH CONFERENCES

This Thursday (8/31) and Friday (9/1) are days on which students and families are invited to conference with their student’s Advisory teacher. These conferences will set students up for a successful launch to the 23-24 school year, including discussing topics such as: schedules, graduation requirements, post-secondary plans, student expectations, getting involved at school, and how we can best support you. Additionally, students will be checking out their laptops during these conferences. If you have not already done so, click below to register, and, view this video which provides an overview of how to use the launch conference scheduling tool!

CEP SURVEY

CEP is the Community Eligibility Provision. It is the program Spokane Public Schools runs to offer free meals to all students at school for the 2023-2024 school year. SPS is able to participate in this program thanks to the passage of a bill in the Washington Legislature in 2022.

Although meals are free to all students this school year, filling out the Family Income Survey helps ensure school funding is maintained for essential programs and supports for our Shadle Park students. Students who qualify can get added benefits like waived sports & testing fees, community discounts, and many others. For more information, visit the CEP survey FAQ link.
