The Disparity Rally will be conducted on Chicago radio stations WVAZ, WGRB, WVON, and via social media, which will broadcast recorded education and awareness messages, voiced by the clergy leaders and others. The recorded messages will promote prostate cancer education and awareness for Black men, who are 70% more likely to receive a prostate cancer diagnosis than all other men and more than twice as likely to die from the disease. The goal is to reach one million people and mobilize ongoing actions in the fight against prostate cancer in Chicago.
"Prostate cancer is a crisis within Black communities, including here in Chicago," said PHEN President and Founder Thomas A. Farrington. "We are honored and blessed to have some of the city's most influential leaders lending their voices to our Chicago Rally."
The Chicago Rally will include a hybrid (in-person and virtual) town hall meeting on August 14th, at Trinity United Church of Christ, in Chicago, where PHEN Survivor Network Members and Chicago medical leaders, clergy, and elected officials will participate in a panel discussion. Notable panelists include Dr. Walter M. Stadler, Fred C. Buffet Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean of Clinical Science Research at The University of Chicago, and Dr. Adam Murphy, Professor of Health Equity Research in Urology at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. Their discussions will revolve around increasing early detection, emphasizing innovative prostate cancer treatments, and the importance of clinical trial participation for Black men, to help eliminate this disparity.
