What's Happening
Following the test pile that happened in early June, the remaining piles were ordered and manufactured. A large materials delivery is expected via barge this week. Construction of the Baywalk between 10 and 12 Streets, with pile driving, will restart shortly thereafter.
This section of Baywalk will be constructed by a private developer in coordination with the city, as outlined in prior agreements.
Project Overview and Benefits
This work is in preparation for and a part of constructing the future Miami Beach Baywalk. Once finished, the Baywalk will connect with the Beachwalk to form a continuous waterfront amenity for Miami Beach residents and the city’s many visitors who want to walk, bike or jog in a beautiful setting (without motorized traffic). The Beachwalk runs along the Atlantic Ocean while the Baywalk will be parallel to Biscayne Bay. The final pending sections of the Baywalk, as depicted in the map herein, are in different stages of development. We're excited to begin construction, in collaboration with a private developer, on the section between 10 and 12 Streets.
Timeline
Work hours are between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pile driving is scheduled to begin in early July 2024 and is expected to take approximately four weeks. The remaining work on this section of Baywalk is expected for completion by the end of the year; however, many tasks are weather-dependent. Please know that schedules may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Project updates will be provided as they become available.
What to Expect
- Most construction work for this effort will take place from the water side of the 10 to 12 Street properties, utilizing a barge in Biscayne Bay.
- The only land-side construction task for this job is when concrete trucks are needed. They will be staged on 10 Street, west of West Avenue.
- Heavy machinery and construction personnel will be on site, mostly on barges to ensure minimal impacts to the public.
- Moderate levels of construction noise are expected during the day.
- Traffic impacts are NOT expected.
- All DERM and FDEP environmental protective measures are in place for this project.
